WSJ pC5 "DuPont's 4.1% Gain Paces the Blue Chips" by Donna Yesalavich says a range of stocks, including DuPont, Bank of America and Exxon climbed indicating increased confidence in the economy, although worries about Europe's economy kept the gains in check. DuPont is charted under Good News saying its new high oleic soybean was approved for cultivation in the US by the Dept. fo Agriculture. Intel is charted under Bad News as some analysts pointed to signs of weakening demand and susquehana downgraded it to neutral. Intel was among the Dow's few decliners with a drop of 0.6%. McDonalds climbed 2.4% as its global same store sales rose 4.8% in May, exceeding analysts' views, although MCD said it thinks foreign exchange rates, especially a weakening euro, will hurt earnings for the year.

JPMorgan rose 2.9% on reports it is selling $716 mil of bonds tied to commercial properties on less favorable terms than when the debt was issued.

USA Today p4B "Dow pulls out a comeback to rise 1.3%" by AP says stocks snapped out of a day of choppy trading Tues. and staged a late rally after Red Res chair Ben Bernanke said he didn't expect the economy to slide back into recession. A rebound in the euro also helped support the market.

A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase of 16.34 for Tuesday by the divisor (0.132319125) you get the increase in Tuesday's Dow of 123.49. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.56 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $43.84 up 0.54 from Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average average closing price of $43.30.
