Post No. 1,598 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of April 15, 2012.

A read of the print editions of Monday's Barron's and Investor's Business Daily; the combined Saturday and Sunday issues of each of the Wall St. Journal  and  Financial Times; Saturday's New York Times & Atlanta Journal Constitution yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 13,228.31 up 23.69 or 0.18% from Thursday's close of 13,204.62. For the week the Dow is up 199.05 points or 1.53% from last Friday's close of 13,029.26. For the year the Dow is up 8.3%.  Of the 30 Dow components 19 gained and 11declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise McDonald's was and percentage-wise wasCisco . The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Procter & Gamble.

Inv. Bus. Daily pB6 "Stocks add to theri gains; IBD 50 keeps lead role" by Paul Whitfield says stocks added to their win streaks Fri as the Nasdaq rose a 3rd straight day & the other major indexes made it 4 in a row.  Friday's action was up in mixed volume.  The current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

Sat.  WSJ pB5 "Dow notches biggest weekly gain in month" by Chirs Dieterich says solid quarterly results from consumer oriented stocks including Amazon.com overshadowed data on slowing economic growth, pushing benchmarks to their biggest weekly advance since mid-March.  Procter & gamble fell $2.43 after it topped 3Q earnings estimates but came up short of rev forecasts.  It provided a 4Q outlook that was below projections.

Fin Times p11 "Apple & amazon shine in a week of mixed results" by Arash Massouid says Wall St was on track to record its best week in a month and a half as Apple  & amazon surpassed expectations in their respective quarterly earnings report.

Sat. NYT pB7 "Markets shrug off a disappointing GDP number" by Bloomberg says the S&P index capped its best week in a month as retailers surged to a record and improving corporate earnings and consumer confidence tempered lower than forecast economic growth.

As of the close of the market on Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B6 of Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Saturday's trailing P/E ratio is 14.81 up from Friday's trailing P/E ratio of 1475 (year ago it was 14.95); Saturday's P/E estimate is 12.42 unchanged from Friday's P/E estimate of 12.32 (year ago it was 12.68) and Saturday's dividend yield is 2.51 unchanged from Friday's dividend yield of 2.51 (last year it was 2.31). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,747.85 up 3.13 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,744.72. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $58.26 up $0.10 from Thursday's average closing price of $58.16. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $52.84 (DD/HD) up$0.03 from Thursday's median closing price of $52.81. The lowest volume was3M and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have made $313 ($174,785 - $174,472 ).

MarketWatch Fri. 4:16 by Laura Mandaro says US stocks U.S. stocks closed moderately higher Friday, rounding out an earnings-filled week with 5-day gains of about 2%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA+0.18% rose 23.69 points, or 0.2%, to 13,228.31. It added 1.5% for the week, its second straight weekly rise. The S&P 500 SPX+0.24% rose 3.38 points, or 0.2%, to 1,403.36 for a weekly gain of 1.8%. The Nasdaq Composite COMP+0.61% added 18.59 points, or 0.6%, to 3,069.20. It rose 2.3% for the week. Quarterly results from Apple, Inc. AAPL-0.77% , Amazon Inc. AMZN+15.75% and Boeing Co. BA +0.36% -- plus a slew of other companies -- helped propel stocks higher this week.
