Post #92 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. The following is not intended as advertising by a broker-dealer and is not a research report. Towards the end of this Blog is an update of the Dow 30's most recent SEC filings.

A read of Saturday's 9/5/09 print editions of: Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Atl Journal Const, yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Friday's closing price and related data:

Dow: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 9441.27 up 96.66 or 1.03% from Thursday's close of 9344.61. Of the 30 Dow Companies: 28 gained and 2 declined (PG and WMT) with the biggest loser being WalMart WMT $51.64 -0.10 0.19% 12,819,484 NYSE and the biggest gainer again being CAT $46.12 +1.08 2.4% 6,732,549 NYSE. The Dow finished down 1.15 for the week.

WSJ pB1 "Stocks Finish A Down Week With a Rally" says stocks managed a second rise in a row on Friday, as data showing smaller than expected job losses helped spark buying in industrial and tech stocks, but major indexes fell for the week. GE was up 3.1% and MSFT was up 2.1%.

WSJ pB3 "Large Stock Focus - GE and Caerpillar Support the DJIA" says industrials including GE and Caerpillar led stocks higher Friday although the gains weren't enough to pare all of the week's declines.

NYT PB3 "Stocks & Bonds - Investors Regain Some Losses To end Bad Week for Markets" says in a day of light trading, investors clawed back some of their losses from earlier in the week after an unemployment reort showed that job losses were continuing to ebb.

The current divisor for the Dow found at today's page B4 of The Wall St. Jrnl is .132319125 unchanged.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1249.26 up 12.79 from Thursday's closing Dow numerator of 1236.47. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today of 12.79 by the divisor you get 96.66, the increase in Friday's Dow close.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was 41.64 up 0.42 from Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price of 41.22. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was 37.55 up 0.26 from Friday's Dow Jones median closing price of 37.29. The highest closing price Friday again was IBM $117.4 +1.07 0.92% 2,973,766 NYSE and the lowest closing price Friday again was Alcoa AA $12.19 +0.18 1.5% 16,391,164 NYSE.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased $100 of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have made $1,260
($124.920 - $123,660)
