5/25/13 Sat. Japan's ANA Resumes Dreamliner Flights

http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,200  The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of May 16 and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings also as of May 16.

A read of the print editions of Tuesday's Investor's Business Daily, Monday's Barron's & Sat/Sun combined issues of each of the Wall St. Journal & Financial Times: and Saturday's  New York Times&  Atlanta Journal Constitution yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Thursday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average:The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 15,303.10 up 8.6 or 0.06%  from Thursday's close of 15,294.50. For the year the Dow is up 16.78%. For the week the Dow is down  51.30 or 0.03% from last Friday's close of 15,354.40. Of the Dow components  14 gained, DuPont was unchanged and  15   declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise   and percentage-wise was Procter & Gamble up $3.18 or 4.04%. The biggest decliners dollar-wise were Caterpillar and McDonald's each down 74 cents   and percentage-wise was Hewlett-Packard down 2.61%.

Tues. IBD pB8 "Stocks remain calm, add little to recent declines" by Paul Whitfield says stocks slipped in drowsy volume Fri in the run up to the 3 day holiday weekend as the current outllok is still a confirmed uptrend.

Sat. WSJ pB1 "Stocks' win streak ends a four weeks" by Matt jarzemsky says US stocks posted thier first weekly decline this month as investors reassessed markets amid uncertainty over central bank support programs & hectic Japanese share trading. Procter  Gamble rose $3.18 after replacing CEO McDonald with his predecessor, A.G. Lafley.

Sat. FT p11 "Shake up at top bolsters P&G" says Procgter & Gamble stood against a weaker US stock market Fri as US shares fell for a 3rd day due to lingering concern that the US central bank might scale back its support for the economy.

Sat. NYT pB4 "With little to cheer, 3 major indexes end week lower" by Retuers says all 3 of the major indexes posted their first down week since mid April due to concern that the Fed might scale back stimulus measures.  Procter & Gamble shares rose 4%.

Sat. AJC pA14 "Win streak ends for Dow, S&P" by AP says the Dow & the S&P had their first weekly losses since week ending 4/19 due to anxiety over the Fed's bond buying program.

As of the close of the market on Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B5  of  Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Friday's closing  trailing P/E ratio is 16.71 unchanged from Friday's opening   trailing P/E ratio of 16.71 (last year it was 13.72); Friday's closing P/E estimate is 13.75 up from Friday's  opening P/E estimate of 13.72 (year ago it was 11.75) and Friday's closing dividend yield is 2.40 up   from Friday's opening dividend yield of 2.36 (last year it was 2.70). The Dow's all-time high was 15,387.58 on May 21, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1992.71 up 1.12  from Thursday's closing numerator of 1991.59. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $66.42 up 3 cents from Thursday's average of $66.39.  The median closing price of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $62.94  (DIS/UNH) down 86 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $63.80. The lowest volume was Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $112  ($199,271 - $199,159).

5/24/13 Friday 4:10  pm MarketWatch by Laura Mandaro says US stocks ended slightly lower Friday--though blue-chips squeaked out a mild gain--and broke a four-week winning streak as anticipation of the end to the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing cooled a rally that's repeatedly knocked through highs. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.06% was up 8.6 points, or 0.1%, to 15,303.10 at the close Friday. It fell 0.3% for the week. The S&P 500 SPX -0.06% fell 0.9 point, or 0.1%, to 1,649.6 Friday, down 1.1% for the week. The Nasdaq Composite COMP -0.01% lost 0.27 point, or 0.01%, to 3,459.14 Friday. It fell 1.1% for the week.
