Post No. 2,930 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization  and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings.

A  read of the print editions of  Tuesday's  Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg)  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Monday's  closing   stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed  Monday at 17817.90 up 7.84 or 0.04 % from Friday's close of 17810.06. For the year the Dow is up 7.5%.  Of the Dow components 16   gained,  DuPont was changed and  13  declined. The biggest gainer   dollar-wise was Boeing up $1.83 and percentage-wise was Intel up 1.85%.  The biggest decliner dollar-wise was United Technologies down $1.51  and percentage-wise was AT&T  down 1.64%.

As of the open of  the market on Tuesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of  Tuesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Tuesday's trailing P/E   ratio is 16.92 up from Monday's   trailing P/E ratio of 16.83  (last year it was 16.50).  Tuesday's P/E estimate is 15.60 unchanged from Monday's P/E estimate of 15.60 (year ago it was 15.02) and Tuesday's dividend yield is 2.18 up from  Monday's dividend yield of 2.17  (last year it was 2.15). The Dow's all-time high was 17817.90 on November 24,  2014. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average numerator is 2774.53 up 1.22  from  Friday's   numerator of 2773.31.  This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $92.48 up 4 cents from Friday's  average closing price of $92.44.  The median closing price of  Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $93.38  (AXP/MCD) down 16 cents from Friday's median closing price of $93.54 (AXP/JMCD). The lowest volume was Travelers  and the highest volume was AT&T.

If  Monday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made  $122  ($277,453 -$277,331).

11/22/14 Mon. 5:00 MarketWatch by Anora Mahmudova & Carla Mozee says the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at record levels on Monday, but it was the small-caps and the Nasdaq Composite who stole the show. Small-caps rallied and outperformed their large counterparts, in a sign that the current bull market has not run out of steam yet. Trading volumes were lower than usual, as the week is cut short by Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.29%  closed 5.91 points, or 0.3%, higher at 2,069.41, the 46th time it closed at record level this year. Consumer discretionary and tech sector stocks led the gains. The heaviest-weighted company on the index, Apple, Inc. rose 1.9%, helping lift the benchmark. The telecom sector was the weakest of the S&P 500’s 10 sectors on Monday, as investors expressed concern over rising costs and increasing competition. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.04%   dipped in an out of negative territory but closed marginally higher, adding 7.87 points to 17,817. The blue-chip index hit a record high for the 29th time this year.Monday trading also saw small stocks outperform large-cap stocks. The Russell 2000 RUT, +1.24%  rose 14 points, or 1.2% to 1,186.22, while the Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.89%  ended the day up 41.92 points, or 0.9%, at 4,754.89, thanks to a rally in biotechnology sector stocks.John Manley, chief equity strategist at Wells Fargo, cautioned not to read too much into market moves this week, ahead of Thanksgiving holiday.Speaking about the market’s run in 2014 and valuations, Manley said that stocks are fairly priced given earnings expectations for the S&P 500 next year are at $125-130 per share.“Big bull markets end with irrationality - when all the people, who lost out on the rally decide to join in. We do not see that yet, as there is still a lot of cash on the sidelines,” Manley said. The economic calendar is thin on Monday, but later in the week, investors will receive a stack of updates on housing, inflation and a revision in third-quarter gross domestic product for the U.S.
