The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Monday at 10450.95 up 132.79 from Friday's close of 10,318.16. Of the 30 Dow Companies: 3 declined and 27 gained. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was CVX $78.73 +1.96 2.55% 7,987,843 NYSE and percentage-wise was GE $16.015 +0.425 2.73% 68,711,224 NYSE. The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Alcoa AA $13.04 -0.09 0.69% 21,003,172 NYSE.

As of the open of the market Monday, the current divisor for the Dow found at page C4 of The Wall St. Jrnl is .132319125 unchanged, the trailing P/E ratio is 17.87 down from Friday's 17.90 (year ago it was 16.85) the P/E estimate is 16.04 up from Friday's 15.82 (year ago it was 8.95) and the current dividend yield is 2.70 up from Friday's 2.69 (it was 4.03 a year ago).

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1382.86 up 17.57 from Friday's closing Dow numerator of 1365.29. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase of 17.57 for Monday by the divisor you get the increase in Monday's Dow close of 132.79.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was 46.10 up 0.59 from Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price of $45.51. WSJ pB8 "Marketers Find Web Cat Can Be Inspriring" by Emily Steel says IBM and a handful of other major marketers, including casino operator Harrah's Entertainment and Microsoft, are experimenting wih developing ad campaigns based in part on what consumers are chatting about on he web. Advertisers are using new technologies to scan the Web for key words to find out what consumers are and are not saying about their brands. They they are incorporating those findings into more conventional research and using them to choose the overall themes of their campaigns and also use specific text and photos for their ads. In creating a recent campaign for its Lotus biz software, IBM and its ad agency Ogilvy North America, taped sources ranging from consumers' Web searches to the comments they posted on video sites like Google's YouTobe to their conversations on social media sites like Twitter. IBM found out that customers tended to care less about its technologies themselves than what those technologies could do for them. Instead of talking about voice over Internet protocol or cloud delivery models, for example, they talked about having conversations and meetings.
