http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 1,823 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of Wednesday's Wall St. Journal, Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution &amp & amp; Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Tuesday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Tuesday at 13,457.55 down 101.37 or 0.75% from Monday's close of 13,558.92. For the year the Dow is up 10.15%.  Of the Dow components 7 gained and 23 declined . The biggest gainer dollar-wise was Johnson & Johnson up 33 cents and percentage-wise was Pfizer up 0.53%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Caterpillar down $3.75 or 4.13%.

WSJ pC4 "Stocks slide on second thoughts" by Mattt Jarzemsky says stocks tubmled witht he S&P sliding the most in 3 months after a Fed official said recent stimulus efforts are unlikely to boost economic growth & Caterpillar lowered its long term profit forecast.  Caterpillar is charted under Bad News as it lowered its forecast citigng sluggish economic growth.

NYT pB9 "Major indexes dive after Fed off'l voices doubt about stimulus" by AP says despite a quiet start, Wall St ahd its biggest decline in 3 months after an off'l said he doubted the Fed's effort to bolster economic growth wold work.  Charles Plosser, Pres of the Fed in Phil made the remarks.

IBD pB4 "Stocks execute downside reversal as vol rises" by Vic Reklaitis says the main indexes staged negative reversals & sustained their most substantial losses in months Tues as the market hit some turbulence.  The current outlook is still a confirmed uptrend.

As of the open of the market on  Wednesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6 of Wednesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Wednesday's trailing P/E ratio is 14.66 down from yesterday's trailing P/E ratio of 14.77 (year ago it was 12.48); today's P/E estimate is 12.95 unchanged from Tuesday's P/E estimate of 12.95 (year ago it was 10.83) and today's dividend yield is 2.50 up from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.49 (last year it was 2.75). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,752.39 down 13.20 from Mondy's closing numerator of 1,765.59. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator decrease for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the decrease in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $58.41 down 44 cents from Monday's closing numerator of $58.85. The median closing price of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $54.40 (DIS/UNH). The lowest volume was Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Tuesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost $ $1,320 ($176,559 - $175,239).

MarketWatch.com Tues. 9/25 4:12 pm by Kate Gibson says US stocks tumbled Tuesday as investors fretted the limits of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. One analyst said the market was largely looking to relieve its overbought state. "Folks were looking for the market to correct in September," said Bruce Bittles, chief investment strategist at R.W. Baird & Co. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA-0.75% fell 101.37 points, or 0.8%, to 13,457.55. Extending its losses into a fourth session, the S&P 500 index SPX-1.05%declined 15.30 points, or 1.1%, to 1,441.59, finishing at a two-week low. Taking its worst pounding since June 25, the Nasdaq Composite COMP-1.36% lost 43.05 points, or 1.4%, to 3,117.73.
