http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,230  The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of Tuesday's Wall St. Journal,   Financial Times,  Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal & Constitution &amp Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Monday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average:The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Monday at 15179.85 up 109.67 or 0.73% from Friday's close of 15070.18. For the year the Dow is up 15.84 %. Of the Dow components 25 gained and 5  declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise  was Boeing up $1.15 and percentage-wise was Cisco up 2.53%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise  was Home Depot down 42 cents and percentage-wise was Verizon down 0.77%.

WSJ pC1 "Stocks get back on track" by Alexandra Scaggs says stocks advanced Mon as traders jockeyed for position ahead of this week's Red Res policy meeting.

IBD pB2 "Stocks end off best levels as key Fed meeting looms" by Vincent Mao says Mnday's action saw stocks up but end off highs as the current outlook is still a confirmed uptrend.

NYT pB8 "Markets rise on thought that Fed will continue stimulus" & AJC pA7 "Investors bet Fed stands pat" by AP says US stocks rose Mon a day with light trading vol & little economic or corp news..

As of the open of the market on Tuesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of Tuesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Tuesday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.59 up from yesterday's  trailing P/E ratio of 16.47 (last year it was 14.04); today's P/E estimate is 13.62 unchanged from Monday's P/E estimate of 13.62 (year ago it was 12.05) and today's  dividend yield is 2.40 down from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.42 (last year it was 2.66). The Dow's all-time high was 15,409.39 on May 28, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1976.66 up 14.28 from Friday's closing numerator of 1962.38. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $65.89 up 48  cents from Friday's average of $65.41. The median closing price of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $64.42 (DIS/UNH) up 42 cents from Friday's median closing price of $63.80. The lowest volume was Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Monday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $1,428 ( $197,666 - $197,617).

Monday MarketWatch 4:09 by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks surged Monday, with the Dow industrials extending their triple-digit moves into a fifth session, as investors latched onto any clues ahead of Wednesday's monetary-policy decision by the Federal Open Market Committee. "I'm a little surprised investors are willing to get this much in front of the FOMC meeting, just on the off chance the Fed says something meaningful," Mark Luschini, chief investment strategist at Janney Montgomery Scott. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.73% rose 109.67 points, or 0.7%, at 15,179.85. The S&P 500 index SPX +0.76% rose 12.31 points, or 0.8%, to 1,639.04. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.84% gained 28.58 points, or 0.8%, to 3,452.13.
