http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,291  The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a  ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of July 14, 2013 and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of 7/14/13.

A read of the print editions of  Wednesday's Wall St. Journal, Financial Times,  Investor's Business Daily,  New York Times,  Investor's Business Daily,  New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & amp; amp; Constitution  & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg)  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Tuesday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average:  The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Tuesday at 15567.74 up 22.19 or 0.14%  from Monday's close of 15545.55. For the year the Dow is up 18.80%.  Of the Dow components  20   gained and 10 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise    and percentage-wise was United Technologies up $3.05 or 2.99% .  The biggest decliner dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was Travelers down $3.22 or 3.77%.

WSJ pC4 "Stocks stagger to a high" by Kaitlyn Kiernan says stocks were mixed in quiet trading with the Dow eking out a fresh high.  United Technologies rose $3.01 after it missed rev estimates but earned mroe than expected and raised the lower end of the forecasted  earnings for the full year.

NYT pB8 & AJC pA13 "Earnings give no clear signal" by AP says corp earnings news gave investors little direction Tues leaving the market litle changed.  The Dow's gains were due entirely to the increae in one stock United Technologies.

FT p22 "United Technologies rise backed by increased earnings guidance" by jason Abbruzzese says the S&P rally paued Teus as investors went to firms with positive outlooks such as United Technologies which raised its future earnings guidance.

IBD pB4 "Distribution hits Nasdaq for 4th time in 6 sessions" by Juan Carlos Arancibia says  a pullback at this stae of the market uptrend would not be a surprise.

As of the open  of the market on Wednesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5   of   Wednesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Wednesday's  trailing P/E ratio is  16.60 down   from yesterday's    trailing P/E ratio of 16.85 (last year it was 14.06);  today's   P/E estimate is  13.55 unchanged   from Tuesday's   P/E estimate of 13.55  (year ago it was 12.35) and today's   dividend yield is 2.36 unchanged   from yesterday's   dividend yield of 2.39  (last year it was 2.66). The Dow's all-time high was 15,567.74  on July  23, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2027.17 up 2.89 from Moniday's losing numerator of 2024.28. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $67.57 up 9 cents    from Monday's average of $67.48.  The median closing price of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $68.57   (DIS/UNH) up 28 cents from Monday's median closing price of $68.29. The lowest volume was 3M  and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Tuesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $289   ($202,717 - $202,428 ).

MarketWatch 7/23/13 Tues. 4:08  pm by Polya Lesova says U.S. stocks ended mostly lower on Tuesday, but the Dow Jones Industrial Average /quotes/zigman/627449 DJIA +0.14% climbed to a record close, buoyed by gains for United Technologies Corp. /quotes/zigman/244482/quotes/nls/utx UTX +2.95% .
