http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,647 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and a summary of Dow 30 components'  SEC filings in each case as of 4/17/14.

A  read of the print editions of  Tuesday's Wall St. Journal,   Financial Times,   Investor's  Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & Constitution  & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomber) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Monday's  closing   stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Monday at 16449.25 up 40.71 or 0.25%  from Thursday's close of 16408.54.  For the year the Dow is down 0.77%. Of the Dow components 17    gained and   13 declined.  The biggest gainer dollar-wise was IBM up $2.26   and percentage-wise was Pfizer up 2.02%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise Disney down 88 cents and percentage-wise were Disney and UnitedHealth down 1.1%.

WSJ pC4 "US stocks extend their advances" by Dan Strumpf says stocks advanced led by a rebound in tech stocks.  Among major earnings reported expected this week, 4 Dow components, Travelers, McDonald's, United Technologies and AT&T, are due to report Tuesday.

NYT pB8 "Optimism on earnings sustains a streak" & AJC pA9 "Dow win streak at 5 days" by AP says the Dow had its longest winning streak in 6 months as a big week for corp earnings began.

IBD pB2 "Stocks stretch win streak as earnings reports roll in" by Vincent Mao says Monday's action was up in lower trade as the current outlook is the market is in a correction.

As of the open    the market on Tuesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of  Tuesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Tuesday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.23 up from Monday's opening  trailing P/E ratio of 16.15   (last year it was 15.88).  Tuesday's P/E estimate is 14.87 unchanged from Monday's opening estimate of 14.87   (year ago it was 13.05) and Tuesday's dividend yield is 2.19 unchanged  from Monday's opening dividend yield of 2.19   (last year it was 2.45). The Dow's all-time high was 16,576.66 on December 31, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2561.41 up 6.34  from  Thursday's closing numerator of 2555.07.  This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $85.38 up 21 cents  from Thursday's average closing price of $85.17.  The median closing price of  Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $78.54   (HD/DIS)  down 29 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $78.83 (WMT/DIS). The lowest volume was   3M and the highest volume was Cisco.

If  Monday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $634  ($256,141 - $255,507).

4/21/14 Mon. 4:09   pm MarketWatch by Anora Mahmudova says U.S. stocks ended Monday with modest gains with the S&P 500 extending the winning streak to five days, the longest consecutive gains in six months. The S&P 500 SPX +0.38% ended the day 7.04 points, or 0.4%, higher at 1,871.89, rising for 5 straight sessions. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.25% closed 40.71 points, or 0.3%, higher at 16,449.25. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.64% added 26.03 points, or 0.6%, to 4,121.55.
