Post No. 2,999 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization  and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 17737.37 down 170.50 or 0.95%  from Thursday's close of 17907.87. For the week the Dow was down 95.34 or 0.53% from last Friday's close of 17832.71. Of the Dow components 5 gained   and 25  declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was IBM up 69 cents and percentage-wise was Cisco up 1.02. As of the open of  the market on Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6 of Friday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Friday's trailing P/E   ratio is 16.79 up  from yesterday's   trailing P/E ratio of 16.49  (last year it was 16.88).  Today's P/E estimate is 15.71 unchanged from Thursday's P/E estimate of 15.71 (year ago it was 14.75) and today's dividend yield is 2.48 up from  yesterday's dividend yield of 2.47  (last year it was 2.32). The Dow's all-time high was 18053.71 on December 26,  2014. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $92.07 down 78 cents from Thursday's  average closing price of $92.95.  The median closing price of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $90.76  (AXP/XOM) down 75 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $91.51 (AXP/XOM). The lowest volume was   Travelers and the highest volume was GE.

If  Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost  $2,655  ($278,854 - $276,199).

1/9/15 Fri. 4:25 pm MarketWatch by Victor Reklaits, Anora Mahmudova  & Sara Sjolin says
The U.S. stock market ended a volatile week on a down note Friday, with strategists blaming the slide, in part, on December’s jobs report that revealed a drop in wages. Slumping oil prices and headlines about a dual hostage crisis in France added to the negative mood. December’s employment situation report received a mixed investor reaction, as the number of jobs added to the economy was strong, however wage growth ticked down. The main benchmarks finished lower for the week, which has been marked by sharp sell-offs on Monday and Tuesday, then big rallies on Wednesday and Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average moved by triple digits for the fifth session in a row. Friday’s losses put the main indexes back into negative territory for the year. The S&P 500 SPX, -0.84%  closed 17.33 points, or 0.8%, lower at 2,044.81, and ended the week with a 0.7% loss. Financials and consumer-discretionary stocks led the losses on Friday, while all 10 sectors ended lower. Energy stocks lost 3.6% for the week, as oil prices continued to fall. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.95% slid by 170.50 points, or 1%, at 17,737.37 ending the week 3.5% lower. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.68%  finished down 32.12 points, or 0.7%, to 4,704.07, recording a 0.5% loss for the week.Friday’s much-awaited jobs report: The U.S. economy added 252,000 jobs last month, while the unemployment rate ticked down to 5.6%. But hourly wages declined and more Americans dropped out of the labor force, suggesting the economy may not be shifting into a higher gear. Analysts said decelerating wage growth may keep the Federal Reserve from raising rates sooner. The headline numbers were “great,” and it looks like the central bank has achieved its unemployment goal, but “the lack of wage growth concerns policy makers, as it means that their other mandate — inflation — will continue to stay below target,” said Michael Arone, an investment strategist at State Street Global Advisors.“Still, I would argue that wage growth is on the horizon, and we may begin to see it next month as 25 states increased their minimum wages,” he added. Movers and shakers: Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. BBBY, -6.75%  was the second-worst performer among S&P 500 stocks after the retailer late Thursday posted quarterly revenue that missed Wall Street’s forecasts. Oil major Chevron Corp. CVX, -1.99% fared worst among Dow components, falling 1.7%.
Other markets: The U.S. oil benchmark CLG5, -1.27% dropped, while gold prices GCG5, +1.21%  gained. Asian stock markets closed mixed, while European equities ended Friday mostly lower. The dollar declined against most major currencies.
