2/28/13 Thursday 4:18 pm MarketWatch by Kate Gibson says US stocks on Thursday finished mildly lower after a last-minute retreat from gains that had the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.15% coming within 15 points of its all-time closing high. "We've had a great run here, so it's perfectly natural for a little selling to come in after such a move," said Alan Skrainka, chief investment officer at Cornerstone Wealth Management. "We have two enormous opposing forces. On the one hand we have deleveraging, which we saw in the GDP numbers with government spending down. Then we have enormous stimulus, and it's pretty clear which side is winning," he added. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.15% ended at 14,054.49, down 20.88 points, or 0.2%, leaving it up 1.4% for its third consecutive monthly gain. The S&P 500 SPX -0.09% shed 1.31 point, or 0.1%, to 1,514.68, up 1.1% for February, which extended its monthly winning streak to four. The Nasdaq CompositeCOMP -0.07% lost 2.07 points, or 0.1%, to 3,160.19, leaving it up 0.6% for the month.
