http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,039 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of 2/1/13 and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of 2/1/13.

A read of the print editions of Monday's Barron's &  Investor's Business Daily; the combined Sat/Sun. issues of each of the Wall. St. Journal &   Financial Times; & Sunday's & Sat.'s   New York Times &    Atlanta Journal Constitution yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 13,992.97 up 48.92 or 0.35% from Thursday's close of 13,986.52. For the week the Dow was down 16.82 or 0.1 % from last Friday's Dow close of 14009.79. For the year the Dow is up 6.78%. Of the Dow components 20 gained, GE was unchanged and 9 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was IBM up $1.67 and percentage-wise was Hewlett-Packard up 2.59%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Boeing down 91 cents or 1.18%.

IBD pB8 "Stocks notch nice gains, but big volume is missing" by Paul Witfield says stocks popped higher Fri as 2 major indexes, Nasdaq & S&P, added to their weekly sinning streaks.  Friday's action was up in lower volume while the current outlook is still a confirmed uptrend.

Barron's pM19 "Five Day dow composite"  says the Dow flirted with 14,000 repeatedly last week but ended slightly down, 0.1%.  UnitedHealth gained 3.5% and Coke 3.3% while Pfizer lost 2.7%.

Sat WSJ pB5 "Blizzard fears muffle the Dow's rise" by Jonathan Cheng says US stocks rallied broadly pushing the S&P to a 5 year high as Wall St braced for an incoming blizzard. hewlett-Packard rose 43 cents extending its gain this year to 18%.  Microsoft and IBM each gained about 1%.  Home Depot was up 1.1%.

Sat. NYT pB6 "S&P extends its rally to a 5 year high" by AP says a last minute budget deal in DC to avoid tax increases & spending cuts has helped to power the rally, on top of optimism about housing & gradual improvements in the jobs market.

FT p13 "LinkedIn gains and trade data help bolster equities" by Anora Mahmudova says US equities ended the week on a positive note, bolstered by data showing the rade deficit had narrowed.

Sat. AJC pA12 "S&P highest since Nov. 07" by AP says stocks are clsoing slightly higher as traders were encouraged by a 21% decline in the US trade deficit.

As of the close of the market on Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B4  of Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Friday's closing   trailing P/E ratio is 15.41 up from Friday's opening trailing P/E ratio of 15.38 (year ago it was 14.28); Friday's closing P/E estimate is 12.54 unchanged from Friday' s opening P/E estimate of 12.54 (year ago it was 12.26) and Friday's closing dividend yield is 2.57 up from Friday's opening dividend yield of 2.49 (last year it was 2.52). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,822.11 up 6.37 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,815.74. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for Monday by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the increase in Friday's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $60.74 up 22 cents from Thursday's average of $60.52. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $56.18 (DIS/UNH) up 47 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $55.71. The lowest volume was 3M and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $637 ($182,211 - $181,574).

MarketWatch Friday 2/8/13 4:13 by Wallace Witkowski says U.S. stocks closed slightly higher Friday following favorable trade data, though trading was far lighter than average as a blizzard bore down on the northeastern part of the country. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA+0.35% closed up 48.92 points, or 0.4%, at 13,992.97, after breaking 14,000 once more. It snapped a five-week winning streak, closing down 0.1% for the week. The S&P 500 IndexSPX+0.57%advanced 8.54 points, or 0.6%, to close at 1,517.93, for a weekly gain of 0.3%. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP+0.91% closed near its high of the day, up 28.74 points, or 0.9%, at 3,193.87. Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq logged their sixth week of gains.
