As of the open of the market Tuesday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of today's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Tuesday's trailing P/E is 14.32 down from Monday's trailing P/E of 14.37 (year ago it was 15.53); the P/E estimate is 12.74 unchanged from Monday's P/E estimate of 12.74(year ago it was 13.10), and the dividend yield is 2.36 up from Monday's dividend yield of 2.35 (last year it was 2.59). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,658.01 down 6.26 from Friday's closing numerator of 1,664.27. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $55.27 down 0.21 from Friday's average closing price of $55.48. If Monday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assumin94 +0.61 0.98% 2,360,279g no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have lost $639 ($166,440 - $165,801).

MarketWatch Monday 5/16/11 4:16 pm by Laura Mandaro says US stocks closed moderately lower Monday, with tech stocks suffering the most. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 47.38 points, or 0.4%, to 12,548.37, with percentage losers led by Microsoft Corp. and Cisco Systems Inc. The S&P 500 lost 8.3 points, or 0.6%, to 1,329.47, with a 1.5% retreat in the tech sector weighing the most. The Nasdaq Composite fell 46.16 points, or 1.6%, to 2,782.31. Weak economic data and simmering worries about the European debt situation, combined with a lack of catalysts ahead of the typical slow summer trading months, kept investors on the sidelines, analysts said.
