A read of the print editions of Monday's Barron's, Monday's Investors' Business Daily, the combined Sat/Sun issues of Wall Street Journal & Financial Times, Sunday's & Saturday's New York Times & Atlanta Journal Constitution yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data.

WSJ pB5 "Three's not a charm for Dow" by Steve Russolillo says stocks fell for a 3rd straight week as a ratings downgrade on Greece & troubling profit reports from Gap & Aeropostale weighed on sentiment. Alcoa led the Dow lower dropping 41 cents and JPMorgan declined 87 cents. The fin'l & industrial sectors dragged down the S&P whie the tech oriented Nasdaq snapped a 3 day winning streak.

Fin Times p12 "Barnes & Noble jumps after Liberty makes $1 bil offer" by Michael Stothard says Barnes & Noble rose sharply after Liberty Media offered to buy it for $1 bil, but worrying earnings reports from the retail sector led the wider markets down for the 3 rd straight week of losses. The tech sector was led lower by Hewlett-Packrd which disappointed investors by lowering its full year earnings forecasts.

Inv. Bus. Daily pA1 "Stocks comeback fizzles as volume turns higher" by Paul Whitfield says stocks tried to rally midday Fri, but a slide in the final 2 hours dashed the bulls' hopes. The current outlook is the market is in a correction.

Sat. NYT pB6 "Fears about consumers send shares tumbling" by AP says signs that consumer demand may be weakening led to a broad sell off in stocks Fri, setting the market on course for its 3rd week of losses.

As of the close of the market Friday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B4 of Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Saturday's trailing P/E is 14.23 down from Friday's trailing P/E of 14.32 (year ago it was 14.82); the P/E estimate is 12.62 down from Friday's P/E estimate of 12.74 (year ago it was 13.10), and the dividend yield is 2.38 up from Friday's dividend yield of 2.70 (last year it was 2.7462). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct6 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,653.21 down 12.33 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,665.54. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator decrease for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the decrease in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $55.11 down 0.41 from Thursday's average closing price of $55.52. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $47.16 (AXP/JPM) down 0.54 from Thursday's median closing price of $47.70.
