The S&P 500 turned lower on the last stretch of trading, ending off 0.1% to 1,316. A Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond survey showing a lull in regional manufacturing contributed to the declines, as it came after softer-than-expected manufacturing surveys in the New York and Philadelphia regions.
