Post No. 1,300 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and Dow 30 components' SEC filings in each case as of November 1, 2011.

A read of the print editions of Thursday's The Wall St. Journal, Financial Times, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution & Daily Report (Ga-Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Wednesday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial AverageThe Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Wednesday at 11,836.04 up 178.08 or 1.53 from Tuesday's close of 11,657.96. For the year the Dow is up 2.23%. Of the 30 Dow components 29 gained and only Intel declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was IBM and percentage-wise was Bank of America NYSE. The only decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Intel.

WSJ pC1 "Stocks up big on Ben" by Jon Cheng says Fed Res Char Ben Bernanke indicated he is prepared to step in if needed to help the economy which sent the Dow up 1.5%, drove Treasury yields below 2% & sparked a brief rally in mortgage bonds.

Fin Tmes p24 "Wireless network providers surge after House votes to ban new taxes" by Ajay Makan says wireless network providers surged after the House of Reps voted Mon night to bar new state & local taxes on wireless services. The fin'l sector was up in a clear sign of a Europe driven rally as Bank of America was up 3.9%.

USA Today p4B "Stocks rise on optimism for strengthening economy" by Bloomberg says stocks rose as the Fed Res said economic growth strengthened & it is prepared to take action if necessary to safeguard the recovery. Verizon rose 33 cents, AT&T added 38 cents as the S House voted to bar new state & local taxes on wireless service.

As of the open of the market Thursday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of Thursday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Thursday's trailing P/E ratio is 12.78 up from Wednesday's trailing P/E ratio of 12.58 (year ago it was 14.28); Thursday's P/E estimate is 12.59 unchanged from Wednesday's P/E estimate of 12.59 (year ago it was 13.15), and Thursday's dividend yield is 2.62 down up from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.52 (last year it was 2.53). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,563.89 up 23.53 from Tuesday's closing numerator of 1,540.36. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $52.13 up 0.78 from Tuesday's average closing price of $51.35. The median closing price of Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $42.32 (DD/VZ) up 0.64 from Tuesday's median closing price of 41.68. The lowest volume was 3M and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Wednesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have lost $2,393 ($156,389 - $154,036).

MarketWatch Wednesday 11/2/11 4:12 pm by Laura Mandaro says US stocks closed sharply higher Wednesday, bouncing back after a deep two-day retreat, as investors took heart from better-than-forecast October jobs data from payroll provider ADP and comments from the Federal Reserve, which noted recent improvement in the economy. Europe's future was also in play as European officials signaled further Greek bailout money was on hold. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +1.53% was up 178.08 points, or 1.5%, to 11,836.04. It had fallen 4.7% over the prior two sessions. The S&P 500 gained 19.62 points, or 1.6%, to 1,237.9. The Nasdaq Composite rose 33.02 points, or 1.3%, to 2,639.98.
