http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,707 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings.

A  read of the print editions of Tuesday's, Wall Street Journal,  Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & Constitution   & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's  closing   stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average:  The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed  Monday at 16937.26 down 9.82 or 0.06%   from Friday's close of 16947.08. For the year the Dow is up 2.18%.  Of the Dow components  14  gained, AT&T was unchanged and   15  declined.   The biggest gainers dollar-wise   were Chevron and JPMorgan up 64 cents   and percentage-wise was JPMorgan up 1.11%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was Boeing down $1.25 and percentage-wise was  Pfizer down 1.11%.

WSJ pC4 "Stocks sputter amid trading torpor" by Dan Strumpf says stocks stalled after their latest push to record highs as news of a handful of corp deals provided the only driver of activity.

NYTpB5 "After a long climb the market takes a breather" by Reutes says the market was essentially unchanged Mon.

FT p21 "Confidence in turnround sends right message for BlackBerry" by Eric Platt says US markets slipped after 6 straight advances despite better than expected manufacturing & domestic sales reports.

IBD pB2 "Indexes sow resilience in another rtight session" by Ken Shreve says the market traded in tight range Mon as major averages held near highs as the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

AJC pA9 "Stocks slip below records" by AP says stocks fell for the first time in 7 days ending a run that pushed the indexes to all time highs.

As of the open of  the market on Tuesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of  Tuesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Tuesday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.57 down from Monday's trailing P/E ratio of 16.58 (last year it was 16.02).  Tuesday's P/E estimate is 15.19 unchanged from Monday's P/E estimate of 15.19 (year ago it was 13.35) and Tuesday's dividend yield is 2.16 down  from  Monday's dividend yield of 2.17 (last year it was 2.49). The Dow's all-time high was 16,947.08 on June 20,  2014. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average numerator is 2637.40 down 1.53  from  Friday's   numerator of 2638.93.  This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $87.9 down 5 cents from Friday's  average closing price of $87.96.  The median closing price of  Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $81.07  (UNH/HD)  down 78 cents from Friday's median closing price of $80.79 (UNH/PG). The lowest volume was 3M  and the highest volume was GE.

If  Monday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost $153  ($263,893 - $263,740).

6/23/14 Monday 4:36    pm MarketWatch by Anora Mahnumdova says   U.S. stocks ended Monday’s session marginally lower, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average pausing after six straight days of modest gains.
Some analysts said stock markets were overextended after hitting record levels last week. Economic data released on Monday were positive, but not strong enough to lift the mood.
SPX 1,962.61, -0.26, -0.01%

The main benchmarks traded in a narrow range, while the CBOE Vix index remained below 11. The S&P 500 /quotes/zigman/3870025/realtime SPX -0.01%  closed less than a point lower at 1,962.61. The Dow industrials DJIA -0.06% shed 9.82 points, or 0.1%, to 16,937.26. The Nasdaq Composite /quotes/zigman/12633936/realtime COMP +0.02%  ended the day less than a point higher at 4,368.68.
Randy Frederick, managing director of trading and derivatives at Charles Schwab, said markets are ripe for a pullback.
“Markets are overbought and are ready for a 3-4% pullback. Last week the S&P 500 hit record levels three times and had 6 up days in a row, while the Vix is at extremely low levels, Frederick said.
“The picture was too rosy and when there is a lot of complacency, market tend to flip,” he added.
Craig Callahan, founder and chief executive officer of Denver-based ICON Advisors, said the markets are within 1% of fair value, but the environment for equities is still favorable as earnings are growing, interest rates are low and credit spreads are narrowing.
In economic news, a gauge of economic activity in May from the Chicago Federal Reserve tick up, while a preliminary June reading of business activity from Markit’s Purchasing Managers’ Index rose to the highest level since May 2010.
Sales of existing homes increased 4.9% in May to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.89 million, the National Association of Realtors reported Monday. A strengthening labor market, expanding inventories and recent drops in mortgage rates supported the second straight monthly increase in sales.
Ahead of U.S. markets, investors received a mixed batch of global PMI reports. HSBC’s closely watched preliminary read on the Chinese manufacturing sector swung to growth from contraction, hitting a seven-month high at 50.8. But business activity in the manufacturing and services sectors in the euro zone slowed for a second straight month in June.
