12/1/12 Sat

http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 1,926 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of 11/2/12 and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of 11/2/12.

A read of the print editions of  Monday's Barron's & Investor's Business Daily, the combined Sat/Sun editions of each of the Wall St. Journal & Financial Times and Saturday's, New York Times & Atlanta Journal and Constituion yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 13,025.58 up 3.76 or 0.03% from Thursday's close of 13,021.82. For the year the Dow is up 6.6%. Of the Dow components  17 gained, GE was unchanged and  12 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Walmart up $1.19 or 1.68 %. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was  IBM down $1.46 and percentage-wise was Microsoft down 1.24%.

As of the close of the market on Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B6 of  Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Saturday's trailing P/E ratio is 14.49 unchanged from Friday's trailing P/E ratio of 14.49 (year ago it was 13.00); Saturday's P/E estimate is 12.35 up from Thursday's P/E estimate of 12.10 (year ago it was 12.35) and Saturday's dividend yield is 2.65 down from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.68 (last year it was 2.62). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,696.14 up 0.49 from Wednesday's closing numerator of 1,695.65. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the increase in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $56.54 up 4 cents from Wednesday's average of $56.51. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $52.03 (DIS/UNH) down 1 cent from Wednesday's median closing price of $52.04. The lowest volume was 3M and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $49 ($169,614 - $169,565).
