http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,375 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a  recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization  and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of  Thursday's  Wall St. Journal,  Financial Times, Investor's News Daily, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & amp; Constitution and Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg)  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and  Wednesday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average:  The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Wednesday at 15676.94 up 147.21 or 0.95%   from  Tuesday's close of 15529.73. For the year the Dow is up 19.63%. Of  the Dow components  29   gained and  1   declined, not including Goldman Sachs, Nike  and Visa all of which were up (these 3 will replace Alcoa, Bank of America, and Hewlett-Packard as of close of market on  9/20).  The biggest gainer dollar-wise  was IBM up $2.26 and percentage-wise was Alcoa up 3.57% .  The only and therefore biggest decliner dollar-wise   and percentage-wise was  UnitedHealth Care down $1.27 or 1.71%.

WSJ pC1 "Fed's surprise powers market surge" by  Alexandra Scaggs, Min Zeng, chris Dieterich says stocks soared to new highs while the US Treasury bonds posted the biggest one day price rally since Nov. '11 as the Fed decided to keep its bond purchase stimulus plan intact.

NYT pB1 "Relief on Wall St and far beyond" by Nathaniel Popper says stocks umped and the 10 yield on the Treasuries hit a high it hadn't seen seen Nov '11 after the Fed delayed the end to stimulus.

USAT p1B "Stocks soar on the taper that wasn't" by Adam Shell says stocks go on a record setting run after the Fed's unexpected move to keep its economic stimulus plan at full force.

FT p23 "Wall street" says the S&P and Dow shot to record highs Wed after the Fed said it would not yet begin to scale back its quantitative easing  asset purchase program.

IBD pB2 "Interest rate stocks soar as market applauds the Fed" by David Saito-Chung says Wed's action was strong gains in higher trade as the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

As of the open  of the market on Thursday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6   of  Thursday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081.  Thursday's  trailing P/E ratio is  16.35 up from Wednesday's  trailing P/E ratio of 16.20 (last year it was 15.03);  Thursday's   P/E estimate is  13.85 unchanged  from yesterday's    P/E estimate of 13.85  (year ago it was 12.95) and Thursday's  dividend yield is 2.39 down   from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.41  (last year it was 2.52). The Dow's all-time high was 15,676.94   on September 18, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2041.39 up 19.17  from Tuesday's closing numerator of  2022.22. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $68.05 up 64 cents    from Tuesday's average of $67.41.  The median closing price of  Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $70.08 (DIS/UNH) down 57 cents  from Tuesday's median closing price of $70.65. The lowest volume was  Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If  Wednesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $1,917  ($204,139 - $202,222) .

MarketWatch 9/18/13 Wed. 4:02 pm by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks climbed to record highs on Wednesday and the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield delayed 10_YEAR -5.44% fell 15 basis points to 2.7% after the Federal Reserve unexpectedly abstained from trimming its $85 billion in monthly bond purchases. "It's like being at a party and more beer shows up. It's a big surprise. No taper was not priced in, and you can see that by the market's reaction," said Eric Davidson, deputy chief investment officer at Wells Fargo Private Bank. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.95% was up 147.21 points, or 1%, at 15,676.94. The S&P 500 index SPX +1.22% added 20.71 points, or 1.2%, to 1,725.52. Both indexes surpassed their Aug. 2 records, while the Nasdaq Composite COMP +1.01% traded at a 13-year high, up 37.94 points, or 1%, at 3,783.64
