Post No. 2,582 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization  and a summary of Dow 30 components'  recent SEC filings.
A  read of the print editions of  Monday's Barron's &  Investor's Business Daily; the combined Sat/Sun issues of each of the Wall St. Journal &  Financial Times; & Sunday's & Saturday's   New York Times &  Atlanta Journal & Constitution   yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's closing stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 16321.71 up 49.06 or 0.30%    from Thursday's close of 16272.65. For the week the Dow was up 218.41 or 1.36% from last Friday's close of 16103.30. For the year the Dow is down 1.54%. Of the Dow components   21   gained, Intel was unchanged  and  8    declined.  The   biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was UnitedHealth Group up $1.25 or 1.64%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was Chevron down 36 cents     and percentage-wise was AT&T down 0.93%.
Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2541.55 up 17.64   from  Thursday's closing numerator of 2533.91. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.
WSJ pB5 "Stocks soared in February" by Matt Jarzemsky, Tomi Kilgore says a broad gauge of the US stock market, the S&P, hit a fresh record, but jitters over the situation in Ukraine took some steam out of the rally.
IBD pB8 "Stocks give back gains; Russia's move feeds fear" by Paul Whitfield says stocks reversed off intraday highs Fri as an afternoon sell off chipped at morning gains as Friday's action was mixed in rising vol & the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.
FT p11 "Wall Street" by Eric Platt says overall US equity markets rose moderately at the end of the week as consumer confidence improved despite the poor weather.  A separate reading of US GDP which revised quarterly growth lower, had been mostly anticipated by investors.
As of the open of the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B6  of  Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117. Monday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.05 up from Friday's trailing P/E ratio of 16.00    (last year it was 15.48).  Monday's P/E estimate is 14.55 up from  Friday's P/E estimate of 14.50        (year ago it was 12.53) and Monday's dividend yield is 2.18 up from Friday's dividend yield of 2.17  (last year it was 2.51). The Dow's all-time high was 16,576.66 on December 31, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.
The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $84.72 up 26 cents      from Thursday's average closing price of $84.46. The median closing price of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $79.74     (PG/DIS) up  40 cents  from Thursday's median closing price of $79.34    (PG/DIS). The lowest volume was Travelers   and the highest volume was Verizon  .
If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $1,764  ($254,155 - $253,391).
2/28/14 Fri. 4:10   pm MarketWatch by William L. Watts says finished the week and the month with solid gains, even as Friday's rally gave way to choppy trading alongside rising concerns over the situation in Ukraine. Stocks were initially boosted by better-than-expected Chicago PMI and consumer-sentiment reports and shrugged off a sharp cut in the estimate of fourth-quarter U.S. economic growth that nonetheless matched expectations. The S&P 500SPX +0.28% was up 5.16 points, or 0.3%, at 1,859.53, well off its session highs, but still at a new record close. The benchmark index gained 1.3% for the week and 4.3% for the month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.30% rose 49.06 points, or 0.3%, to 16,321.71, gaining 1.4% on the week and nearly 4% over the month. The Nasdaq Composite /quotes/zigman/12633936/realtime COMP -0.25% closed lower, losing 10.81 points, or 0.3%, to 4,308.12, but still was 1.1% higher on the week and up 5% for the month.
