Post No. 3,049 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization  and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings.

A  read of the print editions of  Thursday's Wall Street Journal,  Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & Constitution & Daily Report (Georgia - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Wednesday's  closing   stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Wednesday at 17862.14 down 6.62 or 0.04%  from Tuesday's close of 17868.76. For the year the Dow is up %. Of the Dow components 11  gained   and 19  declined. The  biggest gainer dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was Goldman Sachs up $3.09 or 1.67%. The  biggest decliner dollar-wise was  Nike down $1.44 and percentage-wise was Cisco down 2.04%.

WSJ pC4 "Blue Chips recover to close nearly flat" by Saumya Vaishampayan says US stocks ended little changed, drifting between gains and losses as investors kept watch on Greece and its int'l creditors.

FT p21 "Wall street" by Mamta Badkar says the S&P was little changed at 2,068.69 while Nasdaq advanced 0.4% to 4,804.94.

WSJ pB2 "Shares show little change as investors look to Greece" by AP says stocks closed flat in quiet trading as investors waited the outcome of the Greek situation.

As of the open of  the market on Thursday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of  Thursday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Thursday's trailing P/E   ratio is 16.81 down  from yesterday's   trailing P/E ratio of 16.84 (last year it was 15.63).  Today's P/E estimate is 16.64 down from Wednesday's P/E estimate of 16.66 (year ago it was 14.09) and  today's dividend yield is 2.45 unchanged from  yesterday's dividend yield of 2.45  (last year it was 2.18). The Dow's all-time high was 18053.71 on December 26,  2014. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average numerator is 2781.42 down 1.03 from  Tuesday's   numerator of 2782.45.  This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $92.71 down 4 cents  from Tuesday's  average closing price of $92.75.  The median closing price of  Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $88.47  (WMT/XOM) down 17  cents from Tuesday's median closing price of $88.65 (WMT/XOM.  The lowest volume was  3M and the highest volume was Cisco.

If  Wednesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost  $103  ($278,245 - $278,142).

2/11/15 Wed. 4:23 pm MarketWatch by Anora Mahmudova  & Barbara Kollmeyer says
after switching between gains and losses, U.S. stocks ended Wednesday’s choppy session essentially flat. Investors remained jittery, amid worries about whether Greece and its creditors will reach an agreement to avoid a debt default. After a choppy session, the S&P 500 index SPX, +0.00%  ended flat at 2,068.53. Four of the 10 main sectors finished higher, with consumer staples and technology stocks leading gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.04%  dropped more than 100 points at session lows but recovered by the end of the day to end flat at 17,862.14, off 6.6 points. The Nasdaq Composite, however, COMP, +0.28% outperformed other indexes and rose 0.4%, to 4,801.18, largely thanks to a 2.3% gain in Apple Inc., its most significant component by weighting.
Headlines about Greece and whether it will leave the eurozone or restructure its debt have been driving markets lately.Greece’s new antiausterity government is meeting with eurozone finance ministers in Brussels, but few expect any deal to be reached today.Wall Street rallied on Tuesday on rumors that Greece could get a six-month extension to its bailout program. However, speculation was quashed quickly by German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble. Greece’s current bailout plan expires on Feb. 28, and some fear it will run out of money before then. Channing Smith, portfolio manager at Capital Advisors, expects markets to tread water, while headlines from Greece dominate the general mood on Wall Street.“The earnings season is almost behind us and outlooks have been pretty disappointing. Assuming the U.S. economic growth remains at 2%-2.5%, it is difficult to argue that corporations will be able to keep expanding margins, the way they did in the latest reported quarter,” Smith said.Speaking about valuations, Smith noted that at current prices stocks are expensive, even in the beaten down energy sector. “Investors are faced with above-average risk and below-average returns at current valuations. Even in the energy sector, we are still not finding enough value given the risks. We don’t know if the oil price recovery will be V-shaped or U-shaped and that will determine what cash flows and earnings will look like,” he added.
