7/6/15 Mon. am Windows 10 Access Delayed

http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/
by Dan Kolber

Post No. 3,238 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a  recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings.

A  read of the print editions of  Monday's Barron's,  Investor's Business Daily, Financial Times, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Thursday's  closing   stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Thursday at  17730.11 down 27.8 or 0.16%  from Wednesday's close of 17757.91. For the year the Dow is down 0.5%. Of the 30   Dow components  11 gained and  19  declined.  The  biggest gainer dollar-wise was Exxon up 77 cents and percentage-wise was Intel up 1.24%.  The  biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was UnitedHealth down $1.57 or 2.34%.

As of the open of  the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of  Monday's  Wall St. Journal is 0.14985889030177.  Monday's trailing P/E   ratio is 16.16 up from Thursday's   trailing P/E ratio of  16.12 (last year it was 16.69).  Monday's P/E estimate is 15.84 down from Thursday's P/E estimate of 15.94 (year ago it was 15.25) and  Monday's dividend yield is  2.52 up from Thursday's dividend yield of  2.36 (last year it was 2.14). The Dow's all-time high was 18312.39 on May 19,  2015. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Thursday's closing Dow Jones Industrial Average numerator is 2657.01 down 4.17  from Wednesday's closing average numerator of 2661.18.   This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.14985889030177) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.67  change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $88.57 down 14 cents  from Wednesday's closing average of $88.71.  The median closing price of  Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $83.76 (XOM/CAT) up 60 cents  from Wednesday's median closing price of $83.16 (XOM/CAT).  The lowest volume was Travelers  and the highest volume was Apple.

If  Thursday   morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost $417  ($266,118 - $265,701).

7/2//15 Thurs. 4:35 pm MarketWatch by  Anora Mahmudova and Carla Mozee says U.S. stocks ended a volatile holiday-shortened week with losses, as investors grappled with heightened uncertainty tied to Greece ahead of a Sunday referendum to vote on the country’s status as a eurozone member. Financial markets will be closed on Friday to observe U.S.’s Independence Day.Greece and its lenders failed to reach an agreement over bailout funds, resulting in a missed payment to the IMF on Tuesday. The main indexes ended the session marginally lower, as trading amid low volumes was muted. The S&P 500 SPX, -0.03%  ended one point lower at 2,076.27 and recorded a 1.2% loss over the week, its second weekly loss in a row. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.16%  slipped 27.80 points, or 0.2%, to 17,730.11 and fell 1.2% over the week. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.08%  closed 3.91 points, or 0.1% lower at 5,009.21 and booked a 1.4% loss over the week.On Thursday, investors digested reports on the health of the labor market with monthly jobs report and weekly unemployment claims coming in softer than expected. Government data for June showed the economy added 223,000 new jobs, in line with forecasts by economists polled by MarketWatch. However, May and April numbers were cut. The unemployment rated ticked down to 5.3%, but mostly due to more people leaving the labor force. Separately, weekly jobless claims climbed 10,000 to 281,000.Analysts noted that the report was solid enough for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates in September, yet a lack of wage growth could give policy makers an excuse to wait until December. David O’Malley, CEO at Penn Mutual Asset Management, said the jobs reports should have provided enough uncertainty about the timing of the next rate hikes to keep stocks moving higher. “It was a Goldilocks report,- mediocre but with a little bit of something for everyone. This also means that the Fed is not under tremendous pressure to raise rates. We still think that September rate hike is most likely, as the report does not seem to be too weak for them to pause,” O’Malley said. Some analysts suggested that the report may give the Fed an excuse to wait until December to begin raising rates.
