Post No. 1,051 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of May 23, 2011 and Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of May 24, 2011.

A read of Monday's Barron's, the combined Sat/Sun print editions each of the Wall Street Journal & Financial Times, Sunday's & Saturday's New York Times & Atlanta Journal Constitution yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 12,151.26 down 97.26 or 0.79% from Thursday's close of 12,248.55. For the week the Dow is down 2.3%. For the year the Dow is up 4.96%. Of the 30 Dow components only Walmart gained, Travelers was unchanged and 28 declined. The only and therfore biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Walmart WMT $53.66 +0.11 0.21% 13,178,276 NYSE. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was Caterpillar CAT $101.1 -1.09 1.07% 9,451,187 NYSE and percentage-wise was Alcoa AA $15.92 -0.28 1.73% 17,665,126 NYSE.

WSJ pB5 "DJIA extends losing streak" by Jonathan Cheng says stocks tumbled for a 5th straight week, sending the Dow to the largest decline since July '04. The Dow was led lower by Alcoa which shed 28 cents and DuPont which fell 88 cents.

Sat. NYT pB7 "Shares drop on weak monhly jobs report" by Christine Hauser says stocks on Wall St slumped on Fri after a disappointing monthly gov jobs report showed that hiring in the US slowed in May,s ending both the Dow & the broader market down to their 5th straight weekly loss.

Fin Times p12 "Newell Rubbermaid hit as it lowers growth estimates" by Telis Demos says cyclical groups reacted sharply to a US job market report that missed already modest expectations. Tech, down 1.4%, contributed the most to a 1% decline in the S&P 500 index to its lowest in nearly 2 and 1/2 months.

As of the close of the market Friday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B6 of Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Friday's trailing P/E is 13.82 down from Friday's trailing P/E of 13.93 (year ago it was 14.44); Friday's P/E estimate is 12.40 down from Friday's P/E estimate of 12.54 (year ago it was 12.36), and the most recent dividend yield is 2.45 up from Thursday's dividend yield of 2.43 (last year it was 2.70). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,605.54 down 13.64 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,619.18. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator decrease for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the decrease in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $53.52 down $0.45 from Thursday's average closing price of $53.97. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $45.43 (AXP/JPM) down 0.42 from Thursday's median closing price of $45.85. The lowest volume was Travelers TRV $61.18 unch unch 2,567,277 NYSE and the highest volume was again Bank of America BAC $11.28 -0.01 0.09% 114,582,273 NYSE.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have lost $1,358 ($161,918 - $160,560).

MarketWatch Friday 6/3/11 4:13 pm by Laura Mandaro says US stocks closed with broad losses Friday after a report showing lukewarm jobs growth cemented worries that the economy was going through a soft patch. For the week, the major indexes lost more than 2%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 97.29 points, or 0.8%, to 12,151.26, with Caterpillar Inc. and United Technologies Corp. shares weighing the most.
