Post No. 1,661 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of Wednesday's Wall St. Journal, Financial Times,  Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution, and Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Tuesday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Average The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Tuesday at 12,127.95 up 26.49 or 0.22% from Monday's close of 12,101.46. For the year the Dow is down 0.73%. Of the 30 Dow components 17 gained and 13 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was JPMorgan. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was United Technologies  and percentage-wise was Walmart.

WSJ pC4 "Blue chips snap 4 days of losses" by Matt Jarzemsky says the Dow rose for the 1st day in 5 as a reading on the service sector unexpectedly rose & officials from industrialized nations discussed the ongoing European crisis.

Fin Times p20 "Investros punsih Fastenal amid uncertain economic outlook" by Arash Massoudi says the S&P 500 moved higher for the day as investors eagerly sought signs of stimulus from central banks.  Fin'ls particularly big US banks were the best performers.  Bank of America and JPMorgan each were up more than 2.9%.

NYT pB9 "The fin'l secgtor leads a market rebound" by Reutes says stocks rose on Tues recovering some ground from last week's sell off as data showed that the nation's services sector improved in May and outwieghed investors' worries about the eurozone's fiscal crisis.

USA Today p4B "Markets show gains; strategist says the market is cheap"  by Bloomberg says stocks posted modest gains Tues after an unexpected increase in a measure of service industries and as a report said Europe's bailout fund was preparing a credit line for Spain.

Inv. Bus. Daily pB4 "Stocks notch respectable gains, but trade declines" by Victor Reklaitis says stocks scored decent gains tues finishing near their session highs for the 2nd day in a row.  Tuesday's action was respectable gains in lower volume as the current outlook is the market is in a correction.

As of the open of the market on Wednesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6 of  Wednesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Wednesday's trailing P/E ratio is 13.35 up from yesterday's trailing P/E ratio of 13.33 (year ago it was 13.75); today's P/E estimate is 11.78 unchanged from Tuesday's P/E estimate of 11.78 (year ago it was 12.40) and today's dividend yield is 2.77 unchanged from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.77 (last year it was 2.47). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,602.46 up 3.50 from Monday's closing numerator of 1,598.96. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $53.42 up $0.12 from Monday's average closing price of $53.30. The median closing price of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $48.13 (HD/DD) up 0.24 from Monday's median closing price of $47.89. The lowest volume was Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Tuesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have made $350 ($160,246 - $159,900).

MarketWatch Tuesday 4:08 by Laura Mandaro says U.S. stocks rose Tuesday, lifting the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.22% out of a four-session loss streak, after a better-than-forecast showing in the Institute for Supply Management's services index offered some hope on the U.S. economic recovery. The Dow gained 26.49 points, or 0.2%, to 12,127.95. The S&P 500 SPX +0.57% added 7.32 points, or 0.6%, to 1,285.50. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.66% gained 18.10 points, or 0.7%, to 2,778.11.
