http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,307  The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a  recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization  and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of  Friday's Wall St. Journal,   Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily,  New York Times,  USA Today, Atlanta Journal & amp; amp; Constitution  & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg)  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Thursday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average:The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Thursday at 15628.02 up 128.48 or 0.83%  from Wednesday's close of 15499.54. For the year the Dow is up 19.26%. Of the Dow components 24  gained, Alcoa was unchanged and  5 declined.  The biggest gainer dollar-wise   and percentage-wise was American Express up $1.86  or 2.52% .  The biggest decliner dollar-wise   and percentage-wise was ExxonMobil down $1.04 or 1.09%.

WSJ pC1 "Broken record; stocks surge anwew" by Chris Dieterich says stocks soared to their latest record after a measure of US unemployment hit a 5 year low and economic data from Europe and China eased fears that the global economy is slowing.  The Dow has set 29 closing highs this year, the most since 34 in '07.

FT p20 "ExxonMobil disappoints after fall in production and oil prices" by jason Abbruzzese says the S&P broke above 1,700 as disappointing earnings from ExxonMobil were outshined by positive economic data from the US & China.  ExxonMoibl fell 1.1 and is charted.  Procter & Gamble rose 1.7%.

MYT pB7 "S&P closes above 1700 on positive economic data" & AJC pA11 "Markets reach record highs" by AP says stocks roared back to record highs Thurs due to good news on the global economy.

IBD pB2 "Stocks log a bid advance, although volume trails off" by Vincent Mao says stocks kicked off August with a bang as major indexes hit fresh mile stones.  Current outlook is confirmed uptrend.

As of the open  of the market on Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5   of   Friday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Friday's   trailing P/E ratio is  16.68 unchanged   from yesterday's   trailing P/E ratio of 16.68 (last year it was 14.02);  today's    P/E estimate is  13.90 unchanged  from Thursday's   P/E estimate of 13.90  (year ago it was 12.45) and today's    dividend yield is 2.36 down   from yesterday's  dividend yield of 2.37  (last year it was 2.62). The Dow's all-time high was 15,628.02   on August 1, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2035.02 up 16.73  from Wednesday's losing numerator of 2018.29. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $67.83 up 55 cents    from Wednesday's average of $67.28.  The median closing price of Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $69.26   (DIS/UNH) up 51 cents  from Wednesday's median closing price of $68.75. The lowest volume was Travelers  and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Thursday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $1,673    ($203,502 - $201,829).

AThe Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.83% rallied 128.48 points, or 0.8%, to 15,628.02. The S&P 500 climbed 21.14 points, or 1.3%, to 1,706.87.
