Of the 30 Dow Companies: 18 gained and 12 declined with the biggest loser being UTX United Technology $57.4 -0.77 1.32% 5,936,778 NYSE and the biggest gainer being WMT WalMart $51.88 +1.37 2.71% 32,123,719 NYSE.

The current divisor for the Dow found at today's page C4 of The Wall St. Jrnl is .132319125 unchanged.

Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1243.56 up 4.84 from Wednesday's closing Dow numerator of 1238.72. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor.

Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today of 4.84 by the divisor you get 36.58, the increase in Thurssday's Dow close.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was 41.45 up 0.16 from Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price of 41.29.
