The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Monday at 9509.28 up 3.32 or 0.03% from Friday's close of 9505.96. Of the 30 Dow Companies: 13 gained and 17 declined with the biggest loser being Coke KO $49.06 -0.85 1.7% 10,869,883 NYSE and the biggest gainer being ExxonMobil XOM $71.3 +1.38 1.97% 25,591,603 NYSE.

A read of Tuesday's 8/25/09 print editions of: Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Investors Business Daily, New York Times, Atl Journal Const, and USA Today yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Friday's closing price and related data:

Dow: WSJ pC6 "Large Stock Focus - Boeing Climbs 2.7%; Best Buy Falls 4.5%" says as the Dow Jones Industrial average rose for its fifth consecutive session, Boeing helped it stay aloft after receiving a contract from Canadian airline WestJet who ordered 14 737-700s. It aslo says Procter & Gamble's sale of its drug unit to Warner Chilcott shows more deals like that are coming as PG shed 0.24.

NYT pB7 "Shares Pause After Recent Gains, While Oil Rises" says worries about the consumer restrained Wall Street's momentum on Monday, reflecting investors' concerns that the economy might limp along if Americans did not start spending againt. Investors edged away from consumer focused companies like clothing retailers, food companies and furniture makers noting that sahres of Home Depot and Coke fell the most among blue chip stocks. It says investors continued to warm to energy producers like Chevron and ConocoPhillips.

USA Today p4B "Financial stock losses undercut market" saying the stock market took a break from its four session advance as financial stocks, which had been surging, retreated.

The current divisor for the Dow found at today's page C4 of The Wall St. Jrnl is .132319125 unchanged.

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1258.26 up 0.44 from Friday's closing Dow numerator of 1257.82. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today of 0.44 by the divisor you get 3.32, the increase in Friday's Dow close.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was 41.94 up 0.01 from Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing price of 41.93. The median closing price of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was 37.84 down 0.42 from Friday's Dow Jones median closing price of 38.26.

The highest closing price Monday again was IBM $119.32 -0.58 0.48% 6,360,699 NYSE and the lowest closing price Monday again was Alcoa AA $12.42 -0.14 1.11% 30,727,821NYSE.

The lowest volume Monday was MMM $72.56 -0.08 0.11% 2,504,464 NYSE and the highest volume again was BAC BofAm $17.35 -0.11 0.63% 315,026,121 NYSE.

But the devices which plug into broadbank Intenet connections to provide improved coverage inside homes, ahve been slow to catch on with consumers since they hit the market late last year. AT&T doesn't sell femtocells. Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel offer the devices though mostly as a stop gap in areas of poor coverage. It sells from around $250 and is made by Samsung.

NYT pB1 "Focus Shifts to Lawyers' Actions in Case of Merrill's Bonuses" says responding to questions posed by a fed judge, BAC and SEC lawyers said BAC had relied on its outside lawyers to fill in the fine print in the contracts blaming Wachtell, Lipton and Shearman & Sterling for any failure to disclose problems.

Inv Bus. Daily pA2 says BAC has agreed to pay $150 million to settle a class ation lawsuit accusing Merrill of misleading ivnestors re: sale of bonds and preferred stock.
