Post No. 1,102 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of June 20, 2011 and Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of June 20, 2011.

A read of Tuesday's print editions of Wall St. Journal,Financial Times, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg0 yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial AverageThe Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 12,582.77 up 168.43 or 1.36% from Thursday's close of 12,261.42. For the week the Dow is up 648.19 or 5.43% from last Friday's close of 11,934.58. For the year the Dow is %. Of the 30 Dow components all 30 gained and 0 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Caterpillar CAT $108.57 +2.11 1.98% 8,708,917 NYSE.

As of the open of the market Tuesday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of Tuesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Tuesday's trailing P/E is 14.32 up from Friday's trailing P/E of 14.12 (year ago it was 14.06); Tuesday's P/E estimate is 12.54 up from Friday's P/E estimate of 12.20 (year ago it was 11.95), and Tuesday's dividend yield is 2.39 down from Friday's dividend yield of 2.41 (last year it was 2.85). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,662.55 up 22.25 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,640.30. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $55.41 up 0.73 from Thursday's average closing price of $54.68. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $47.00 (AXP/JPM) up 0.67 from Thursday's median closing price of $46.33. The lowest volume was Travelers TRV $59.11 +0.73 1.25% 3,618,591 NYSE and the highest volume again was Bank of America BAC $11.085 +0.125 1.14% 127,850,651 NYSE.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have made $2,225 ($166,255 - $164,030).

MarketWatch Friday 7/1/11 4:35 pm by Kate Gibson says US stocks surged Friday after an upbeat measure of U.S. manufacturing propelled Wall Street to what looks like its best week this year. “The economic numbers came out strong, the market took off and hasn’t receded since,” said Stephen Carl, head equity trader at the Williams Capital Group. Extending gains into a fifth consecutive session, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 168.43 points, or 1.4%, to 12,582.77. The blue-chip index, which began the day nearly 500 points higher from where it stood at last Friday’s close, tallied a weekly gain of 5.4%. Up 5.6% for the week, the S&P 500 Index rose 19.03 points, or 1.4%, to 1,339.67, with consumer discretionary the best performing of its 10 major industry groups, led by Harman International Industries Inc., up 2.2% a day after the supplier of audio equipment said it would hike its annual dividend to 30 cents a share. Among the leading gainers on the S&P 500, Darden Restaurants Inc.’s shares climbed 6.1% after the restaurant-chain operator late Thursday projected 2011 earnings above expectations. The Nasdaq Composite Index added 42.51 points, or 1.5%, to 2,816.03, giving it for a weekly rise of 6.2%. With the benchmark indexes finishing higher every day so far this week, the market’s “a little toppy, so we can anticipate a bit of profit-taking Tuesday morning for those institutions that are in,” according to Carl at Williams Capital. “The drivers … were end-of-quarter window dressing by managers wanting to look good, coupled to corporate-stock buybacks with a little dumb money thrown in for good measure,” said Steven Evanson, president of Evanson Asset Management of the four-day winning streak that closed out the second quarter Thursday. For every stock that fell, almost five gained on the New York Stock Exchange, with volume ahead of the three-day weekend hitting a slight 865 million shares. Composite volume topped 3.4 billion. The weeklong rally in equities followed a bout of softness during the past two months as investors fretted over the recovery, Greece’s debt troubles and the approaching end of the Federal Reserve’s $600 billion bond-buying program, which came to an end Thursday. Noting the end of the second round of stimulus otherwise known as quantitative easing, Peter Boockvar, equity director at Miller Tabak commented: “QE2 RIP, the market manipulation stops for now.” Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond President Jeffrey M. Lacker says it's up to the U.S. government to lift the economy, while the Fed should focus on keeping inflation in check. The catalyst for the gains was the Institute for Supply Management, which said its index of manufacturing activity climbed to 55.3% in June from 53.5% the prior month. The gauge had fallen sharply in May as a result of a shortage in parts manufactured in Japan that are needed to make automobiles. Read more about the ISM manufacturing reading. The ISM report, combined with a similar reading the prior day on factory activity in the Chicago area, “suggests that manufacturing has indeed picked up — it just did so in the latter half of June rather than its beginning,” said Dan Greenhaus, chief global strategist at BTIG LLC. Separately, the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer-sentiment survey worsened in June, falling to a reading of 71.5 from 74.3 in May. U.S. construction spending fell 0.6% in May from a revised 0.6% drop in April.
