7/16/12 Mon am Coke, Intel & Johnson & Johnson Report Tues.

Post No. 1,727 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of  Monday's Barron's &amp, Investor's Business Daily, Wall St. Journal &amp, Financial Times, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution  & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Average The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 12,777.09 up 203.82 or 1.62% from Thursday's close of 12,573.27.  For the week the Dow is up 4.62  points or .036% from last Friday's close of 12,772.47 . For the year the Dow is up 4.58%.  Of the 30 Dow components 29 gained and only Hewlett-Packard  declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was  was IBM up $2.91 and percentage-wise was JPMorgan up 5.9 %. The only and therefore biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Hewlett-Packard down 37 cents or 1.94%.

Inv. Bus. Daily pB6 "Stocks end losing sreak, but can't shake pressure" by Paul Witfield says stocks ended a losing streak with big gains Fri in quiet volume as Friday's action was up sharply in lower volume and the current outlook is uptrend under pressure.  The coming week involves several reports including IBM.  JPMorgan topped earnings estimates but reported that its traders may have hidden losses, which could lead to criminal charges.  The stock rose 6% in 59% great volume.

Sat. WSJ pB4 "Banks lead stocks higher" by Chris Dieerich says fin'l stocks led a market surge after better thane expected quarterly results from JPMorgan boosted enthusiasm about earnings season & jolted the Dow from its longest slide in almost 2 months.  Bank of America rose 24 cents.

As of the open of the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of  Monday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Monday's trailing P/E ratio is 14.22 down from Saturday's trailing P/E ratio of 14.14 (year ago it was 14.11); Monday's P/E estimate is 12.23 unchanged from Saturday's P/E estimate of 12.15 (year ago it was 12.60) and Monday's dividend yield is 2.62 down from Saturday's dividend yield of 2.66 (last year it was 2.42). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,688.23 up 26.93 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,661.30. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $56.27 up 0.89  from Thursday's average closing price of $55.38. The median closing price of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $50.14 (HD/DIS) up $0.65 from Thursday's median closing price of $49.49 (HD/DIS. The lowest volume was Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If  Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have made $2,693 ($168,810 - $166,130).
