Post No. 1,707 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of 6/20/12 and Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of 6/20/12.

A read of the print editions of Tuesday's  Wall St. Journal &amp, Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution &amp Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Monday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Monday at 12,871.39 down 8.7 or 0.07% from Friday's close of 12,602.26.  For the year the Dow is up 5.4%. Of the 30 Dow components 15  gained and 15     declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was American Express 84 cents and percentage-wise was JPMorgan up 1.54% . The biggest decliner dollar-wise was Caterpillar down $1.23 and percentage-wise was DuPont down 2.25%.

WSJ pC4 "Factoryd ata chill stocks" by Chris Dieterich says anotehr weak reading on the US economy dragged down the Dow but hopes for action from global central banks helped stocks trim early declines.

Fin Times p22 "Dluggish demand outlook abroad drags DuPont target price lower" by Kandy Wong says shares in DuPont fell Mon after Jefferies downgraded it to hold from buy on worries of a sluggish European demand outlook.  Caterpillar fell 1.5% and GE was down 1.7%.  US equities were mixed as concerns of slowing global manufacturing overshadowed optimism that European leaders were taking action to address eurozone debt troubles.  JPMorgan was up 1.5% while Bank of America was down 1.6%.  AT&T was up 1.5% while Verizon was up 1.1%.  Hewlett-Packard added 0.3% and IBM was up 0.1%.

NYT pB6 "shares dip on manufacturing data then recover" by Christine Hauser says manufacturing activity int he US declined in June, the first time since June '09, partly due to a slowdon in orders from Asia & Europe.

USA Today p4B "Stocks bounce back afer weak manufacturing data" by Bloomberg says most US stocks rose Mon sending the S&P to an almost 2 month high as takeovers helped the market recover from earlier losses triggered by data shwong a manufacturing contraction.

IBD pB2 "Market shows resilience overcoing weak reports" by Vincent Mao says stocks finished strongly Mon following a rocky start brought on by a round of lackluster dta from around the world.  Monday's action saw stocks shake off modest losses as the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

As of the open of the market on Tuesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of Tuesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Tuesday's trailing P/E ratio is 14.18 up from yesterday's trailing P/E ratio of 14.10 (year ago it was 14.32); today's P/E estimate is 12.19 unchanged from Monday's P/E estimate of 12.19 (year ago it was 12.54) and today's dividend yield is 2.59 down from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.60 (last year it was 2.39). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,700.69 down 1.15       from Friday's closing numerator of 1,701.84. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator  decrease for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the decrease in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $56.69 down 0.04 from Friday's average closing price of $56.73. The median closing price of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $51.22  (HD/DD) down $0.66 from Friday's median closing price of $51.78. The lowest volume was Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Monday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would havelost $115  ($170,184 - $170,069).

MarketWatch Mon. 4:16     pm by Myra P. Saefong says U.S. blue-chip stocks finished slightly lower for the session on Monday, after data showed that U.S. manufacturing activity shrank in June for the first time in three years, but the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 index posted modest gains. The "ISM is not doomsday, but a euro-zone break up is," said Michael Gayed, chief investment strategist at Pension Partners LLC. "Traders realize it is more important to remove the euro-zone event risk, than what the U.S. manufacturing side does." The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.07% fell 8.70 points, or 0.1%, to 12,871.39, while the S&P 500 SPX +0.25% rose 3.35 points, or 0.25%, to 1,365.51. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.55% climbed 16.18 points, or 0.6%, to 2,951.23, with shares of Brightpoint CELL +66.54% leading the climb after Ingram Micro Inc. IM +0.46% said it would buy the wireless-equipment provider for roughly $622 million.
