http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,417 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a  recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of Oct. 22  and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of Oct. 22.

A read of the print editions of  Monday's  Barron's & Investor's News Daily, the combined Sat/Sun issues of each of the Wall St. Journal & Financial Times; &Sunday's & Sat's New York Times &  Atlanta Journal & amp; Constitution  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and  Friday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average:The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 15570.28 up 61.07 or 0.39% from Thursday's close of 15509.21. For the year the Dow is up 18.82%.  For the week the Dow was up 170.63 or 1.1% from last Friday's close of 15399.65.  Of  the Dow components 21    gained, Pfizer was unchanged  and 8   declined.  The biggest gainer dollar-wise was Boeing up $2.21 and percentage-wise was Microsoft up 5.96% .  The biggest decliner dollar-wise  was IBM down 95 cents  and percentage-wise was Walmart down 0.76%.

IBD pB8 "Stock indexes grab gains but China issues hit hard" by Paul Whitfield says stocks poked higher Fri but some top rated issues especially China based US listings fell in fast trade as Friday's action was up in mixed volume and the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

Sat. WSJ pB5 "Tech earnings help S&P 500 hit new high" by Matt Jarzemsky says US stocks rallied again as strong quarterly results from tech firms outweighed mixed economic data.  Microsoft rallied $2.01  after it reported better than expected quarterly results Thurs.

Sat. NYT pB6 "A record for the S&P 500 on a day of broad gains", Sat. AJC pA12 "Stocks get technology boost" say strong 3Q results from tech firms gave the market its 3rd straight weekly gain.  After reporting better thane expected results Microsoft rose 6%.

FT p11 "Wall Street"  says Microsoft was the leading gainer on the Dow, nasdaq & S&P as profit and rev exceed expectations sending shares up 5.9%.  Procter & Gamble edged down 0.7% as it posted a quarterly profit that met expectations.  DuPont jumped to its highest in more than 13 years after it said it would spin off its titanium dioxide unit within 18 months.

As of the open  of the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B6   of  Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Monday's   trailing P/E ratio is  17.42 up  from Friday's  trailing P/E of 17.38  (last year it was 13.95);  Monday's   P/E estimate is  14.65up from Friday's P/E estimate of 14.13  (year ago it was 12.35) and Monday's  dividend yield is 2.15 down from Friday's  dividend yield of 2.16  (last year it was 2.59). The Dow's all-time high was 15,676.94   on September 18, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2424.54 up 9.51   from Thursday's closing numerator of 2415.03. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $80.82 up 32 cents from Thursday's average closing price of 80.50.  The median closing price of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $75.89 (NKE/WMT) down 71 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $76.60 (HD/WMT).  The lowest volume was  Travelers and the highest volume was Microsoft.

If  Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $951    ($242,454 - $241,503) .

MarketWatch 10/25/13 Fri. 4:02 pm by Kate Gibson says US stocks finished another week of gains with the S&P 500 index SPX +0.44% at record highs after earnings from large technology companies Microsoft Corp. MSFT +5.96% and Amazon.com Inc. AMZN -0.09% included better-than-expected revenue. "It's a fine stock market if you just look at earnings, interest rates and price-earnings ratios," said Hugh Johnson, chairman of Hugh Johnson Advisors LLC. The U.S. economy will be a focus when investors take a look at October numbers slated for release in the first week of November, said Johnson, who adds the market will also face headwinds from "uncertainty over what is Washington going to decide" in facing budget issues at the end of the year and into early 2014. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.39% rose 61.07 points, or 0.4%, to 15,570.28. The S&P 500 added 7.7 points, or 0.4%, to 1,759.77.
