Post No. 2,736 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of 7/3/14 and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings as of 7/3/14.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed  Thursday at 16915.07 down 70.54 or 0.42%   from Wednesday's close of 16985.61. Of the Dow components 6   gained, Boeing and Cisco were unchanged and   22  declined.   The biggest gainer   dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Verizon up 74 cents or 1.51%. The biggest decliner   dollar-wise and percentage-wise was  Home Depot down $1.33 or 1.65%.

As of the open of  the market on Thursday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of  Thursday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Thursday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.61 down from Wednesday's trailing P/E ratio of 16.63  (last year it was 16.71).  Thursday's P/E estimate is 15.26 unchanged from Wednesday's P/E estimate of 15.26 (year ago it was 13.55) and Thursday's dividend yield is 2.15 down  from  Wednesday's dividend yield of 2.16 (last year it was 2.40). 7/10/14 Thursday 4:04   pm MarketWatch by Anora Mahumudova  & Barbara Kollmeyer says the U.S. stock market fell, but ended well off the day’s lows, as a decision by one of Portugal’s biggest banks to delay a debt payment reminded investors of the fragility of Europe’s banking system.
Investor worries centered on Espirito Santo Financila Group SA, although those worries seemed to abate over the course of the trading session.
Meanwhile, U.S. economic data continued to show an improving economy. The number of people who applied for unemployment benefits in the first week of July fell to a seven-year low.
The S&P 500 SPX -0.41%  closed down 8.12 points, or 0.4%, to 1,964.71. The Dow Jones Industrial AverageDJIA -0.42%   dropped as much as 180 points at session lows, but ended the day down 70.35 points, or 0.4%, at 16,915.20. The Nasdaq Composite COMP -0.52%  lost 22.83 points, or 0.5%, to 4,396.20.
Federal Reserve officials agreed to end the central bank's bond-buying program by October.
Steven Wieting, global chief investment strategist at Citi Private Bank, played down the concerns about Portugal for U.S. stocks. He said investors are just using downbeat economic and banking news from Europe and Asia as an excuse to sell.
“The reality is that we had a 6% rally in just six weeks, and markets were looking for an excuse to correct. Nothing has changed fundamentally, neither in the U.S., nor in Europe,” Wieting said. “Rising markets tend to ignore single data points, but in falling markets, fear gets amplified that someone else will sell.”
Still to come is the first major speech from Stanley Fischer as vice chairman of the Federal Reserve. The speech, at 4:30 p.m. Eastern in Cambridge, Mass. will focus on financial reform.
On Friday, the earnings season kicks off in earnest as Wells Fargo & Co.                WFC -0.73%   reports before the opening bell. Read:
In overseas markets, the Stoxx Europe 600 index XX:SXXP -1.06%  closed lower for a fifth day, dropping 1.1% as banks tumbled after Espirito Santo Financial Group SA PT:ESF -8.92% , the controlling lender of Banco Espirito Santo SA CA:BES 0.00% , suspended trading its own shares and bonds, citing “ongoing material difficulties.” Also Read: Portuguese government yields soar amid banking turmoil
Unexpected drops in industrial production in May in both Italy and France also weighed on sentiment.
The Nikkei 225 index JP:NIK -0.56%  fell 0.6%, but other Asian markets were flat or slightly higher. Chinese exports for June rose 7.2% in June from a year earlier, far below the 10% rise expected from economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal.
Gold futuresGCQ4 +0.97%  jumped sharply to their highest settlement in nearly four months.

7/9/14 Wednesday 4:07   pm MarketWatch by Anora Mahumudova  & Barbara Kollmeyer says The U.S. stocks closed modestly higher on Wednesday after the FOMC minutes revealed that policy-makers decided to end the Fed’s bond purchases by October if the economy stays on track.

“We believe this quarter financials are likely to surprise on the upside, just because there is too much skepticism about the sector, the only one to deliver negative growth,” Bell added. Alcoa Inc.
