http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,651 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings.

A  read of the print editions of  Thursday's Wall St. Journal,   Financial Times,   Investor's  Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & Constitution  & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Wednesday's  closing   stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed  Wednesday at 16501.65 down 12.72 or 0.08%   from Tuesday's close of 16514.37.  For the year the Dow is down 0.45%. Of the Dow components 11    gained, Goldman Sachs was unchanged and  18  declined.  The biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was  Boeing up #.08 or 2.41 %. The biggest decliner dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was AT&T down $1.39 or 3.83%.

WSJ pC5 "Stocks take dip into red" by Alexandra Scaggs says stocks snapped their recent winning streak as weakness in tech shares weighed on the market.  AT&T is charted under Bad News as its profits fell.  AT&T slid $1.37.  Procter & Gamble fell 25 cents after it beat 3Q earnings forecasts but cut its full year outlook.

NYT pB6 "6 day win streak ends as profits fall short" by AP says the market broke a winning streak as the latest corp earnings disappointed.

IBD pB2 "S&P 500 remains prince of indexes; IBD 50 slumps" by david saito-Chung says Wed's action saw Nasdaq paces losses in lower vol while the current outlook is market is in correction.

FT p19 "Wall Street" by Eric PLatt says Boeing surprised Wall St with an 18% increase in deliveries and Procter & Gamble had better than expected earnings.

As of the open    the market on Thursday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of  Thursday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Thursday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.22 down from Wednesday's opening  trailing P/E ratio of 17.90   (last year it was 16.14).  Thursday's P/E estimate is 14.87 up from Wednesday's opening estimate of 15.70   (year ago it was 13.05) and Thursday's dividend yield is 2.16 up  from Wednesday's opening dividend yield of 1.98   (last year it was 2.44). The Dow's all-time high was 16,576.66 on December 31, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2569.57 down 1.98  from  Tuesday's closing numerator of 2571.55.  This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $85.65 down 7 cents  from Tuesday's average closing price of $85.72.  The median closing price of  Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $79.03   (HD/DIS)  down 53 cents from Tuesday's median closing price of $79.56 (DIS/HD). The lowest volume was   3M and the highest volume was AT&T.

If  Wednesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $198  ($257,155 - $256,957).

4/23/14 Wed. 4:05   pm MarketWatch by Anora Mahmudova says The U.S. stock market ended Wednesday's choppy session lower, as investors paused for breath after six straight days of gains on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite. Earnings results from Apple Inc. AAPL +0.07% and Facebook Inc. FB +2.49% after the closing bell were in focus. Disappointing numbers from home sales and manufacturing data added to cautious sentiment. The S&P 500SPX -0.22% ended the day 4.16 points, or 0.2%, lower at 1,875.39. The Dow Jones Industrial Average /DJIA -0.08% closed 12.72 points, or 0.1%, lower at 16,501.65. The Nasdaq Composite/realtime COMP -0.83% shed 34.49 points, or 0.8%, to 4,161.97.

SO LONG, THAT'S ALL

4/23/14 Wed am Travelers' Profits Up, AT&T's Flat, McDonald's Down

http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,649 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings.

A  read of the print editions of  Wednesday's Wall St. Journal,   Financial Times,   Investor's  Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & Constitution  & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Tuesday's  closing   stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Tuesday at 16514.37 up 65.12 or 0.40%   from Monday's close of 16449.25. For  the year the Dow is down 0.38%.  Of the Dow components  19   gained and  11  declined.  The biggest gainer dollar-wise was Goldman Sachs up $2.66 and percentage-wise was  Home Depot up 2.19%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was Exxon down 56 cents or 0.55%.

WSJ pC4 "Stocks' rebound endures" by Tomi Kilgore says US stocks rallied as upbeat corp news brought the Dow within reach of its record.  Among Dow reporting results, United Technologies was up 89 cents, Travelers rose 49 cents but McDonald's fell 35 cents.

NYT pB7 "Deals and solid earnings lift shares" & AJC pA15 "Netflix, Harley lead surge" by AP says the market had its 6th straight day of gains due to corp deals and respectable earnings reports.

IBD pB4 "Stocks build on rebound, as medical stocks climb" by Juan Carlos Arancibia says Tuesday's action saw indexes continue wining streak with the current outlook is market in correction.

FT p21 "Harley-Davidson speeds past forecasts to top S&P spot" by Richard Blackden, Eric Platt says Home Depot whose fortunes are tied to the nation's housing market was the biggest gainer on the Dow as its shares rose 2.5%.

As of the open    the market on Wednesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of  Wednesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Wednesday's trailing P/E ratio is 17.90 up from Tuesday's opening  trailing P/E ratio of 16.23   (last year it was 17.94).  Wednesday's P/E estimate is 15.70 up from Tuesday's opening estimate of 14.87   (year ago it was 14.10) and Wednesday's dividend yield is 1.98 down  from Tuesday's opening dividend yield of 2.19   (last year it was 2.45). The Dow's all-time high was 16,576.66 on December 31, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2571.55 up 10.14  from  Monday's closing numerator of 2561.41.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $85.72 up 34 cents  from Monday's average closing price of $85.38.  The median closing price of  Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $79.56   (DIS/HD)  up $1.02 from Monday's median closing price of $78.54 (HD/DIS). The lowest volume was   3M and the highest volume was Intel.

If  Tuesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $1,1014  ($257,155 - $256,141).

4/22/14 Tues. 4:08   pm MarketWatch by Anora Mahmudova says the U.S. stock market closed higher Tuesday, with the S&P 500 extending its winning streak to 6 days, the longest consecutive gains since September 2013. Investors welcomed better-than-expected results from Lockheed Martin Corp  LMT -2.97% , Harley-Davidson Corp HOG +6.41% and Comcast Corp. CMCSA +1.90% , while a flurry of deal news in the health-care sector added to positive sentiment. The S&P 500SPX +0.41% ended the day 7.66 points, or 0.4%, higher at 1,879.55, rising for 6 straight sessions. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.40% closed 65.12 points, or 0.4%, higher at 16,514.37.
