by Dan Kolber

Post No. 3,134 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings.

A  read of the print editions of  Monday's  Barron's & Investor's Business Daily; the Sat/Sun issues of Wall Street Journal and Financial Times; Wall Street Journal & New York Times; Atlanta Journal & Constitution  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's  closing   stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 18057.65 up 98.92 or 0.55%  from Thursday's close of 17958.73. For the week the Dow is up 87.94 or 0.49% from last Thursday's close of 17763.24.  For the year the Dow is up %. Of the Dow components 24  gained  and   6 declined. The  biggest gainer dollar-wise  was GE up $2.78 and percentage-wise was Caterpillar up 2.38%. The  biggest decliner dollar-wise was Nike down 75 cents  and percentage-wise was Coke down 0.41%.

WSJ pB5 "Boosted by GE, Dow up nearly 100 points" by Corrie Driebusch says US stocks rose, notching their 2nd weekly gain in a row, as GE plans to exit most of its lending operations buoyed the market.  GE said it would sell the bulk of GE Capital over the next 2 years and agreed to sell  $26.5 bil of real estate.

IBD pB8 "Stocks add more gains, but volume remains low" by Paul Whitfield says Friday's action was up in weak vol while the current outlook is uptrend under pressure.

Sat. AJC pA12 "Stocks up 2nd week in row" by AP says most of the week's gains were due to the Fed Res and odds that it won't raise interest rates until Sept. rather than June.

As of the open of  the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B6 of  Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.14985889030177.  Monday's trailing P/E   ratio is 16.33 down  from Friday's   trailing P/E ratio of 16.40 (last year it was ___).  Today's P/E estimate is 16.28 up from Friday's P/E estimate of 16.08 (year ago it was __) and  today's dividend yield is 2.25 down from  yesterday's dividend yield of 2.26  (last year it was __). The Dow's all-time high was 18288.63 on March 2,  2015. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average numerator is 2706.10 up 14.81  from Thursday's average numerator of 2691.28.   This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.14985889030177) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.67  change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $90.20 up 49 cents from Thursday's closing average of $89.71.  The median closing price of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $84.45 (PG/XOM) up 18 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $84.27 (PG/XOM).  The lowest volume was 3M and the highest volume was Apple.

If  Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $1,481  ($270,610$269,128).

4/10/15 Fri. 4:46 pm MarketWatch by  Anora Mahmudova and Sara Sjolin says U.S. stocks ended the session higher on Friday, with the main benchmarks booking their second straight weekly gain.
Friday’s advance came as General Electric Co. surged 11% following an announcement of a comprehensive restructuring plan and a hefty stock repurchases. GE’s surge helped push the Dow Industrials above 18,000 level for the first time in nearly three weeks. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.52%  closed 10.88 points, or 0.5%, higher at 2,102.05 and recorded a 1.7% gain over the week. Industrials and energy-sector stocks were the week’s biggest winner, rising more than 3%.The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.55%  added 98.92 points, or 0.6%, to 18,057.65 and gained 1.7% over the week. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.43%  ended the session up 21.41 points, or 0.4%, to 4,995.98 and recorded a 2.2% weekly gain. The tech-heavy index is less than a percentage point away from the 5,000 level.Rallies in Asia and Europe set the tone for U.S. markets, said Chris Gaffney, president of EverBank World Markets.“Markets have been trading in a tight range the whole week as the focus shifted to earnings,” Gaffney said. “The drop in earnings is already priced in. While we expect companies to beat already lowered expectations, forward guidance will be more important,” Gaffney said.Gaffney cautioned that valuations are at the higher end of the spectrum, which he said calls for diversification into international markets.Lacker’s speech: Richmond Fed President Jeffrey Lacker, a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee, in a speech reiterated his case for June hike.“In current circumstances, raising the funds rate target a notch or two is less like taking away the punch bowl and more like just slowing down the refills. We will still be spiking the punch—just not quite as rapidly as we have been,” Lacker said.
