by Dan Kolber

Post No. 3,151 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings.

A  read of the print editions of  Monday's  Barron's & Investor's Business Daily, the combined Sat/Sun issues of each of the Wall Street Journal & Financial Times; & Saturday's New York Times &  Atlanta Journal & Constitution  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's  closing   stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 18080.14 up 21.45 or 0.12%  from Thursday's close of 18058.69. For the year the Dow is up 1.44%.  For the week the Dow was up 253.80 or 1.42% from last Friday's close of 17826.30. Of the 30   Dow components  12  gained and18   declined.  The  biggest gainer dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was Microsoft up $4.53 or 10.45%.  The  biggest decliner dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was Boeing down $1.47 or 0.98%.

IBD pB9 "Indexes extend winning streak, but some leading stocks skid" by Paul Whitfield says Friday's action was up in mixed volume and the current outlook is confirmed uptrend.  Microsoft leapt 10%.

FT p12 "Wall Street" says tech stocks rallied after Microsoft and Amazon reported results while US stocks fluctuated near record levels.

Sat. NYT pB6 "Slight gains close out a robust week for the market" by AP says stocks advanced slightly Friday as investors cheered the quarterly results of 3 large tech firms:  Google, Microsoft and Amazon.

WSJ pB1 "S&P joins Nasdaq in record territory" by Corrie Driebusch says a day after Nasdaq set its first record in 15 years, some of the biggest tech stocks celebrated in style such as Microsoft.  The S&P 500 hit 2117.69 a new intraday high and also closed at a record. Microsoft became the third largest firm by market value in the US behind Apple and Google.

As of the open of  the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B6 of  Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.14985889030177.  Monday's trailing P/E   ratio is 16.43 down from Friday's   trailing P/E ratio of  16.44 (last year it was 16.04).  Monday's P/E estimate is 16.30 up from Friday's P/E estimate of 16.12 (year ago it was 14.70) and  Monday's dividend yield is 2.25 unchanged from  Friday's dividend yield of  2.26 (last year it was 2.18). The Dow's all-time high was 18288.63 on March 2,  2015. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average numerator is 2709.47 3.21 from Thursday's average numerator of 2706.26.   This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.14985889030177) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.67  change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $90.32 up 11 cents from Thursday's closing average of $90.21.  The median closing price of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $85.78 (CAT/XOM) down 38  cents from Thursday's median closing price of $86.16 (CAT/XOM).  The lowest volume was Nike and the highest volume was Microsoft.

If  Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $321  ($270,947 - $270,626).

4/24/15 Fri. 4:36 pm MarketWatch by  Anora Mahmudova and Barbara Kollmeyer says
U.S. stocks rang up with solid gains as better-than-expected earnings propelled the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 to finish at all-time highs. The Nasdaq Composite advanced for five straight sessions, posting the biggest weekly gain since October 2014. Outside the technology and consumer-discretionary sectors the mood on Wall Street was less sanguine. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.23% ended 4.77 points, or 0.2%, higher at 2,117.70, narrowly topping its previous record close reached on March 2. The benchmark index recorded a 1.8% gain over the week. The Nasdaq COMP, +0.71%  ended the session up 36.02 points, or 0.7%, at 5,092.08, and gained 3.3% over the week. Meanwhile, the Dow DJIA, +0.12%  added 21.45 points, or 0.1%, to 18,080.14 and gained 1.4% over the week.Nicholas Colas, chief market strategist at global brokerage Convergex, said Friday’s gains on Nasdaq were a good sign.“The new highs on Nasdaq are impressive because of how much conviction there is — it was not an accidental rally. Today’s follow-through suggests there is genuine confidence among investors, who are comfortable with current valuations,” Colas said.     With the Nasdaq's record closing high, WSJ's Kristen Scholer takes a look at how the index could hit sustainable new highs going forward. Technology, biotech and pharmaceuticals will be key. Reasons to like tech: Guillaume Duchesne, equity strategist at BGL BNP Paribas in Luxembourg, said at the moment investors are gravitating toward stocks that are a play on stable growth, and information technology is one key part of this.
