Post No. 986 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of April 24, 2011 and Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of April 24, 2011.

A read of the print editions of Tuesday's Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution & Daily Report (Georgia - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Monday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Monday at 12,505.59 up 52.45 or 0.42% from Thursday's close of 12,505.59 (the market was closed Fri.). For the year the Dow is up 7.79%. Of the 30 Dow components 13 gained and 17 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was Travelers TRV $61.78 +0.46 0.75% 3,348,795 NYSE and percentage-wise was Intel INTC $21.94 +0.48 2.24% 81,729,082 NASDAQ-GS. The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was DuPont DD $55.12 -0.79 1.41% 4,766,187 NYSE.

WSJ pC5 "Tech alone can't push Dow higher" by Donna Yesalavich says stocks slipped as investors grew concerned about rising input costs, although strong reports in the tech sector limited the drop. Intel was charted under Good News as it led the Dow and DuPont is charted under Bad News as it dragged down the Dow.

Fin Times p20 "Kimberly Clark loses ground as raw materials costs hit earnings" by Michael Stothard says Wall St receded slightly from the strong gains last week after poor ernings from Advanced Micro Devices, Kimberly Clark and Johnson Controls.

NYT pB6 "Shares fall on fear of rising commodity prices" by Reuters says stocks fell Mon in the lightest volume session of the year after a lower outlook from Kimberly Clark heightened concern that higher commodity costs would squeeze profits in the future. About 5.34 bi shares traded on the NYSE, Amex and Nasdaq, below the dialy average of 7.74 bil.

Inv. Bus. Daily pA1 "Volume fades to lowest of year; stocks mixed" by Paul Witfield says stocks posted mixed results Mon in the slowest daily volume so far this year. The current outlook is confirmed uptrend.

USA Today pB6 "S&P 3 session winning streak ends" by Bloomberg says stocks fell Mon breaking a 3 session winning streak for the S&P as lower commodity prices drove energy down and raw material producers as well and Kimberly Clark cut its profit forecast.

As of the open of the market Tuesday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of Monday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. The trailing P/E is 14.67 down from Monday's trailing P/E of 14.70 (year ago it was 17.18); the P/E estimate is 12.68 up from Monday's P/E estimate of 12.65 (year ago it was 14.10), and the dividend yield is 2.36 up from Monday's dividend yield of 2.35 (last year it was 2.45). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,648.95 down 3.41 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,652.36. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator decrease for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the decrease in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $54.97 down 0.11 from Thursday's average closing price of $55.08. The median closing price of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $45.85 (AXP/JPM) udown 0.04 from Friday's median closing price of $45.89. The lowest volume was 3M MMM $94.12 +0.20 0.21% 2,181,979 NYSE and the highest volume was again Bank of America BAC $12.44 +0.13 1.06% 112,228,280 NYSE.

If Monday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have lost $341 ($165,236 - $164,895).

MarketWatch Monday 4/25/1 4:17 pm by Laura Mandaro says U.S. stocks broke a three-session winning streak Monday as some lingering worries over rising commodity costs and increasing fiscal debt gave investors an excuse to take profits. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 26.11 points, or 0.2%, to 12,479.88 points, its first down day in four, after closing at a nearly 3-year high on Thursday ahead of the Good Friday holiday. The S&P 500 lost 2.13 points, or 0.2%, to 1,335.25, led by falling resource stocks. Among companies reporting earnings, Kimberly-Clark Corp. shares fell 2.7% after the maker of diapers trimmed its profit outlook, citing material costs. The Nasdaq Composite edged up 5.72 points, or 0.2%, to 2,825.88.
