Post No. 1,524 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of 3/7/12 and Dow 30 components' recent SEC filings as of 3/7/12.

A read of the print editions of Thursday's Wall St. Journal, Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution and Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Wednesday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial AverageThe Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Wednesday at 13,194.1 up 16.42 or 0.12% from Tuesday's close of 13,177.68. For the year the Dow is up 7.99%. Of the 30 Dow components 13 gained and 17 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was AT&T T $31.45 -0.18 0.57% 24,450,773 NYSE and percentage-wise was Bank of America BAC $8.84 +0.35 4.12% 485,189,932 NYSE. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was Caterpillar CAT $112.27 -1.03 0.91% 6,141,879 NYSE and percentage-wise was Disney DIS $43.48 -0.53 1.2% 10,966,284 NYSE.

WSJ pC4 "Blue chips eke out a gain" by Jon Cheng says blue chip stocks squeezed out a 6th straight gain a day after the Fed Res' latest stress tests of the biggest US banks. Bank of America which passed the test rose 35 cents to lead the Dow. American Express rose 1.90.

Fin times p22 "US fin'ls retreat following Fed Res stress test gains" by Arash Massoudi says the leading US banks dominated market attention for a 2nd straight day as investors digested the results of the Fed Res stress tests. The Dow was led higher by Bank of America and American Express was the 2nd best Dow performer. Disney led the fallers down 1.2% while Caterpillar was down 0.9%.

NYT pB3 "Shares end mostly flat as the S&P breaks its winning streak" by Reuters says the S&P ended lower Wed breaking a 5 day streak of gains as investors found little reason to extend a rally that took the benchmark index to 4 year highs.

USA Today p4b "Dow, nasdaq continue gains, but the S&P falters a bit" by Bloomberg says the S&P dipped as stocks had rallied Tues after JPMorgan had boosted its dividend.

Inv. Bus. Daily pA1 "Market leaders act fine as indexes finish mixed" byDavid Saito-Chung says stocks meandered in a narrow range & the key idnexes closed mixed Wed in lighter trade. The current outlook is still a confirmed uptrend.

As of the open of the market Thursday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of Thursday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Thursday's trailing P/E ratio is 14.77 up from Wednesday's trailing P/E ratio of 14.75 (year ago it was 14.41); Thursday's P/E estimate is 12.39 unchanged from yesterday's P/E estimate of 12.39 (year ago it was 12.42) and today's dividend yield is 2.48 unchange from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.48 (last year it was 2.43). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,743.33 up 2.17 from Tuesday's closing numerator of 1,741.16. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $58.11 up $0.07 from Tuesday's average closing price of $58.04. The median closing price of Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $51.07 (DD/HD)up $0.16 from Tuesday's median closing price of $50.91. The lowest volume was 3M MMM $88.87 +0.12 0.14% 2,950,607 NYSE and the highest volume again was Bank of America BAC $8.84 +0.35 4.12% 485,189,932 NYSE.

If Wednesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have made $217 ($174,116 - $174,333).

MarketWatch Wednesday 3/14/12 4:09 pm by Myra P. Saefong says the Dow Jones Industrial Average extended its winning streak to a sixth-consecutive session on Wednesday, finding support from largely positive bank stress tests, but the S&P 500 Index failed to shake off weakness by the close. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.13% rose 16.42 points, or 0.1%, to close at 13,194.10. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.03% edged up by 0.85 point to 3,040.73. The S&P 500 SPX -0.12% lost 1.67 points, or 0.1%, to end at 1,394.28. "The fact that 15 of the most important of the Fed's children 'passed' the hypothetical stress test, along with 'hopeful' signs that the economy may be improving led to a buying spurt at the market's close," said Robert Barone, a portfolio manager and partner at Universal Value Advisors in Reno, Nev. "Yet, trading volume remains low, indicating a lack of strong conviction. Suspicions linger regarding the health of the U.S. and world economies."
