Post No. 1,013 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of April 24, 2011 and Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of April 24, 2011.

A read of the print editions of Wednesday's Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, New York Times, USA Today, Investor's Business Daily, Atlanta Journal Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Tuesday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Tuesday at 12,760.36 up 75.68 or 0.6% from Monday's close of 12,684.68. For the year the Dow is up 10.22%. Of the 30 Dow components 26 gained and 4 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was IBM $170.38 +1.28 0.76% 4,912,984 NYSE and percentage-wise was Disney DIS $43.91 +0.81 1.88% 11,689,108 NYSE. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was 3M MMM $95.71 -0.28 0.29% 3,286,615 NYSE and percentage-wise was Disney DIS $43.91 +0.81 1.88% 11,689,108 NYSE.

WSJ pC6 "Skype's the limit: deal lifts DJIA" by Brendan Conway says stocks advanced as investors drew encouragement from Microsoft's $8.5 bil deal for Skype Technologies & from signs of strength in the global economy. Walt Disney led the Dow as it rose 81 cents followed by Hewlett-Packard, which added 55 cents.

Fin Times p24 "Expectations of a windfall from Microsoft's Skype deal lift Ebay" by Michael Stothard says Microsoft lost ground after it confirmed that it was buying Skype for $8.5 bil while US stocks continued to trend higher folllowing the strong non farm payrolls report.

Inv. Bus. Daily pA1 "Stocks rise, but action mixed in leaders" by Vincent Mao says stocks stepped up their rebound Tues as they continued to recoup a large chunk of last week's losses. Tuesday's action was stocks up in higher trade. The current outlook was market in correction.

NYT pB9 "Strong earnings & Skype deal lift Wall St" by Ap says corp deals & strong earnings have been credited with driving stocks higher this year, and news on Tues confirmed that trend. The Skype purchase follows AT&T's announcement in March that it would buy T-Mobile for $39 bil and Johnson & Johnson's $21.3 bil deal to buy Synthes.

As of the open of the market Wednesday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of today's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. The trailing P/E is 14.56 down from Tuesday's trailing P/E of 14.47 (year ago it was 15.87); the P/E estimate is 12.75 unchanged from Tuesday's P/E estimate of 12.75 (year ago it was 12.84), and the dividend yield is 2.31 down from Tuesday's dividend yield of 2.33 (last year it was 2.55). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,686.02 up 10 from Monday's closing numerator of 1,676.02. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $56.20 up 0.33 from Monday's average closing price of $55.87. The median closing price of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $47.66 (AXP/JPM) up 0.08 from Monday's median closing price of $47.58. The lowest volume was United Technologies UTX $89.81 +0.29 0.32% 2,661,943 NYSE and the highest volume was again Bank of America BAC $12. 28 +0.10 0.82% 90,357,462 NYSE.

If Tuesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have made $1,000 ($168,602 - $167,602).

MarketWatch Tuesday 5/10/11 4:14 pm by Laura Mandaro says US stocks closed sharply higher Tuesday, extending gains into a third day, as Microsoft Corp.'s $8.5 billion offer for Skype Global spurred optimism of more merger activity to come. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 75.68 points, or 0.6%, to 12,760.36, with IBM leading point gains. Dow-component Microsoft, however, fell 0.6%. The S&P 500 rose 10.87 points, or 0.8%, to 1,357.16. The Nasdaq Composite gained 28.64, or 1.01%, to 2,871.89.
