Post No. 1,007 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of April 24, 2011 and Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of April 24, 2011.

A read of the print editions of Monday's Barron's & Investor's Business Daily's, Saturday's & Sunday's combined issues of each of the Wall Street Journal & Financial Times, and each of Saturday's New York Times & Atlanta Journal Constitution yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 12,638.74 up 54.47 or 0.43% from Thursday's close of 12,584.17. For the week the Dow is down 171.80 or 1.34% from last Friday's close of 12,810.54. For the year the Dow is up 9.17%. Of the 30 Dow components 25 gained and 5 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was Caterpillar CAT $110.34 +0.95 0.87% 7,985,109 and percentage-wise was Kraft KFT $34.08 +0.69 2.07% 16,550,073 NYSE. Inv. Bus. Daily A1 "Stocks reverse off highs, settle for modest gains" by Paul Whitfield says after a 4 day slide, stocks on Fri seemed due for at least a one day pop. The market delivered that much, but in a reluctant fashion. The indexes gave up most of the day's gains by the close. Friday's action was up in lower volume. The current outlook is the market is in a correction.

Barron's "Week preview" p9 says on Wednesday 5/11 Bank of America holds its annual meeting, a senate panel examines the proposed merger of AT&T and T-Mobile and Dow Jones indexes discusses the Dow Jones Industrial Average as its 115th anniversary approaches.

WSJ pB5 "Blue chips snap 2 week streak" by Donna Yesalavich, Kristina Peterson says stocks rose but commodities continued their decline as a bigger thane expected increase in monthly nonfarm payrolls boosted sentiment, but worries over Greece limited the gains.

Fin Times p14 "Sentiment recovers with materials & energy gains" by Michael Stothard says a volatile week on Wall St ended on a upbeat note after better thane expected employment data lulled investor sentiment from the doldrums 7 helped energy & materials stocks rebound. Shares in Kraft were up 2.1% as it reported a rise in revenues and margins.

Sat. NYT pB7 "Strong jobs report gives Wall St. an end of week lift" by Bloomberg says stocks advanced on Fri as stronger than forecast growth in jobs bolstered confidence in the nation's economy. Shares of DuPont and Boeing rose at least 1.1% to lead gains in the Dow. Stock in Kraft Foods and Fluor climbed more than 2% after beating analysts' earnings estimates. Kraft and other other food and beverage firms have raised prices on many products to cope with rising costs for commodities, including wheat, corn and coffee.

As of the close of the market Friday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B4 of Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. The trailing P/E is 14.42 up from Friday's trailing P/E of 14.27 (year ago it was 15.33); the P/E estimate is 12.75 down from Friday's P/E estimate of 12.91 (year ago it was 12.84), and the dividend yield is 2.34 up from Friday's dividend yield of 2.34 (last year it was 2.64). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,669.94 up 7.20 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,662.74. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $55.66 up 0.24 from Thursday's average closing price of $55.42. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $47.62 (AXP/JPM) up 0.27 from Thursday's median closing price of $47.35. The lowest volume was Travelers TRV $63.43 +0.43 0.68% 2,383,730 NYSE and the highest volume was again Bank of America BAC $12.1 +0.01 0.08% 111,134,116 NYSE.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have made $720 ($166,274 - $166,995).

MarketWatch Friday 5/6/11 4:13 pm by Laura Mandaro says US stocks ended Friday's session with moderate gains, retreating from highs reached after a report showed a surprise burst in jobs growth. Clipping the day's gains, concerns about Europe's financial stability returned on a report Greece may consider leaving the European Monetary Union, and oil stocks cooled their advance. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.43% ended up 54.57 points, or 0.4%, at 12,638.74. The S&P 500 SPX +0.38% gained 5.1 points, or 0.4%, to 1,340.20. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP +0.46% gained 12.84 points, or 0.5%, to 2,827.56. For the week, the Dow average lost 1.3%, the S&P 500 fell 1.7%, and the Nasdaq Composite slid 1.6%.
