The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Tuesday at 12,573.8 up 167.57 or 1.31% from Monday's close of 12,411.23. Of the 30 Dow components 29 gained and only United Technologies declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Boeing up $2.56 or 3.65%. The only and biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was United Technologies down 29 cents or 0.39%.
As of the open of the market on Tuesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6 of Tuesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Tuesday's trailing P/E ratio is 13.68 up from yesterday's trailing P/E ratio of 13.83 (year ago it was 13.60); today's P/E estimate is 11.75 unchanged from Monday's P/E estimate of 11.75 (year ago it was 12.01) and today's dividend yield is 2.70 unchanged from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.70 (last year it was 2.50). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.
Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,661.37 up 21.49 from Monday's closing numerator of 1,639.88. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

the first session in five, as investors fretted coming events,

deeply recessionary economy, it does reduce the threat of a new wave of
financial contagion emanating from the euro-zone debt crisis,” wrote

euros in European rescue funds for its stricken banking sector. Also
there is the prospect of Greece exiting the euro after elections June
17.“However, a more important hurdle to financial stability will come
with next Sunday’s Greek election,” he said.European officials have

automated bank machines should Greece opt out of the euro, Reuters
reported, citing European Union officials.The finance officials stressed
