Post No. 2,264 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.
A read of the print editions of Monday's Barron's & Investor's Business Daily, Wall St. Journal & Financial Times; New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal & amp; Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.
Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 15135.84 up 147.29 or 0.98% from Wednesday's close of 14988.55. For the week the Dow was up 226.24 or 1.52% from last Friday's close of 14909.60. For the year the Dow is up 15.5%. Of the Dow components 27 gained and 3 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was 3M up $2.09 and percentage-wise was American Express up 2.32 % . The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was McDonald's down 49 cents or 0.49%.
IBD pB8 "Stocks quiet but be alert: July rally wouldn't be first" by Paul Whitfield says stocks trotted higher Fri in a quiet post holiday session as the current outlook is the market is in correction.
Sat. WSJ pB1 "Dow ends the week on a high" by Matt Wirz, Min Zeng, Chris Dieterich says investors bid up shares due to an upbeat employment report. Bonds suffered broad losses as signs fo a strengthening labor market fed fears the Fed could soon scale back its debt purchases.
As of the open of the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of Monday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Monday's trailing P/E ratio was 16.54 up from Friday's trailing P/E ratio of 16.28 (last year it was 14.07); Monday's P/E estimate was 13.42 unchanged from Friday's P/E estimate of 13.42 (year ago it was 12.15) and Monday's dividend yield was 2.42 down from Friday's dividend yield of 2.47 (last year it was 2.62). The Dow's all-time high was 15,409.39 on May 28, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.
Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1970.93 up 20.02 from Wednesday's closing numerator of 1950.91. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.
The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $65.70 up 67 cents from Wednesday's average of $65.03. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $65 (DIS/UNH) up 42 cents from Wednesday's median closing price of $64.58. The lowest volume was Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.
If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $2,002 ( $197,093 - $195,091).
Friday MarketWatch 4:12 by Victor Reklaitis says U.S. stocks with strong gains Friday after a choppy session, helped by a stronger-than-expected jobs report.
