As of the open  of the market on Thursday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5   of  Thursday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Thursday's  trailing P/E ratio is  15.47 unchanged from Wednesday's  trailing P/E ratio of 15.47 (last year it was 14.46);  Thursday's   P/E estimate is  13.47 unchanged  from Wednesday's   opening P/E estimate of 13.47  (year ago it was 12.42) and Thursday's  dividend yield is 2.50 up   from Wednesday's opening dividend yield of 2.49  (last year it was 2.62). If Wednesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $1,262  ($194,424 - $193,162) .

MarketWatch 9/4/13 Wed. 4:01 pm by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks on Wednesday closed higher for a second session as investors anticipated votes on Capitol Hill on U.S. moves in Syria while tracking economic reports for clues to the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. "Most people believe it's a foregone conclusion that something will happen," Ron Florence, deputy chief investment officer for investment strategy, Wells Fargo Bank, said of the view that the Fed would start cutting monetary stimulus later this month. "Investors need to pay attention to the fact we're gong to be in a sustained and rising interest-rate environment for a while and that changes the game, or the way you manage your fixed income portfolio," he added. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.65% was up 96.91 points, or 0.7%, at 14,930.87. The S&P 500 index SPX +0.81% gained 13.31 points, or 0.8%, to 1,653.08.
