http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,426 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a  recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of Oct. 22  and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of Oct. 22.

A read of the print editions of  Friday's Wall St. Journal,  Financial Times, Investor's News Daily, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & amp; Constitution  & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and  Thursday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Thursday at 15545.75 down 73.01 or 0.47% from Wednesday's close of 15618.76. For the year the Dow is up 18.63%. Of  the Dow components 9    gained  and  21  declined.  The biggest gainer dollar-wise was 3M up $1.06 and percentage-wise was ExxonMobil up 0.91% .  The biggest decliner dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was Visa down 47.15 or 3.51%.

WSJ pC4 "Stocks end heady month with drop" by Chris Dieterich says stocks fell Thurs as investors weighed upbeat corp earnings vs. the Fed's potential to pare its stimulus efforts.  ExxonMobil rose 81 cents  after its 3Q net income and rev topped estimates.

IBD pB2 "Stocks shift course twice ending day on glum note" by Paul Whitfield says Thursday's action was down in higher trade as the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

FT p21 "Expedia among top US gainers on mixed day for earnings" says Visa lost 3.5% dragging the Dow after it reported a 28% drop in quarterly profit.  Overall US equity indices succumbed to a late sell off due to concern in the wake of the Fed's policy announcement & some encouraging economic data.

NYT pB12 "Market slips at end of solid Oct" by Reuters says the market declined Thurs but still ended Oct with solid gains.  Exxon rose 81 cents after reporting 3Q earnings that beat expectations.

AJC pA17 "No Oct jinx for stock market" by AP says Oct. often makes ivnestors nervous as that is when some of the biggest crashes happened.

As of the open  of the market on Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6   of  Friday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Friday's   trailing P/E ratio is  17.42 down  from Thursday's  trailing P/E of 17.46  (last year it was 14.30);  today's   P/E estimate is  14.65 unchanged from Thursday's P/E estimate of 14.65  (year ago it was 12.35) and today's  dividend yield is 2.15 up from yesterday's  dividend yield of 2.14  (last year it was 2.56). The Dow's all-time high was 15,680.35   on October 29, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2420.72 down 11.37   from Wednesday's closing numerator of 2432.09. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $80.69  down 38 cents from Wednesday's average closing price of 81.07.  The median closing price of  Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $77.32 (HD/WMT) down 8 cents from Wednesday's median closing price of $77.40 (HD/WMT).  The lowest volume was  Travelers and the highest volume was GE.

If  Thursday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost $1,137   ($243,209 - $242,072).

MarketWatch 10/31/13 Thurs. 4:09 pm by Wallace Witkowski says  U.S. stocks DJIA -0.47% fell 73.01 points, or 0.5%, to close at 15,545.75, for an October gain of 2.8%.
