http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,444 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a  recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization  and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of  Thursday's  Wall St. Journal,  Financial Times,   Investor's News Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal & Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg)  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and  Wednesday's closing stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average:The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Wed. at 15761.78 up 167.8 or 1.08% from  Tuesday's  close of 15750.67. For the year the Dow is up 20.7%.   Of  the Dow components  24  gained  and   6  declined.  The biggest gainer dollar-wise was  Visa up $1.51 and percentage-wise was Microsoft up 2.13% .  The biggest decliner dollar-wise   and percentage-wise was DuPont down $1.11 or 1.79%.

WSJ pC4 "DJIA, S&jP 500 at records; Yellen is focus" by Alexandra Scaggs says US stocks vaulted to records on increasing hopes for continued, central bank stimulus efforts.  The dow hit a new reocrd after being down as many as 79 points at its session low.  On Tues, the Dow had dropped 32 points or 0.2%, snapping a 2 day run of record closes.

NYT pB12 "Macy's holiday forecat helps lift shares" by AP says the stock market climbed back into record territory Wed after Macy's gave an optimistic forecast for holiday sales.

IBD pB2 "Market uptrend resumes after S&P 500 hits hight" by David Saito-Chung says a key stock index sprang to an all time high and leading stocks rallied smartly Wed boosting the market's current outlook back into an uptrend as Wednesday's action saw strong gains in higher vol.

FT p21 "S&P 500 hits record as focus remains on central bank policy" by Dave Shellock says US & European equities put in mixed performances and gov bond yields mostly declined as the focus remained firmly on the outlook for central bank policy around the world.

As of the open  of the market on Thursday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6   of  Thursday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Thursday's   trailing P/E ratio is  17.73 up  from Wednesday's  trailing P/E of 17.65  (last year it was 13.75).  Thursday's   P/E estimate is  14.70 unchanged from Wednesday's P/E estimate of 14.70  (year ago it was 12.15) and Thursday's  dividend yield is 2.13 unchanged from Wednesday's  dividend yield of 2.13  (last year it was 2.73). The Dow's all-time high was 15,821.63 on November 13, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2463.68 up 11.05 from Tuesday's closing numerator of 2452.63. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $82.12 up 37 cents from Tuesday's average closing price of 81.75.  The median closing price of  Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $78.38 (NKE/WMT) up 64  cents from Tuesday's median closing price of $77.74 (NKE/WMT).  The lowest volume was  Travelers and the highest volume was Cisco.

If  Wednesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $2,613    ($246,386 - $245,263).
