http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,434 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a  recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization  and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of  Wednesday's  Wall St. Journal,  Financial Times,  Investor's News Daily, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & amp; Constitution  & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and  Tuesday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Tuesday at 15618.22 down 20.9 or 0.13% from Monday's close of 15639.12.  For the year the Dow is up 19.19%. Of  the Dow components  11   gained, Intel was unchanged  and  18   declined.  The biggest gainer dollar-wise was Verizon up 95 cents and percentage-wise was Cisco up 2.15 % .  The biggest decliner dollar-wise  was IBM down $2.42 and percentage-wise was AT&T down 2.52%.

WSJ pC4 "Stocks edge lower ahead of jobs data" by Kaitlyn Kiernan, Tomi Kilgore says stocks closed mostly lower but well above early lows as investors digested a stronger than expected reading on the US services industry while looking ahead to key jobs data later in the week.

NYT pB5 "Market takes a breather after recent gains" & AJC pA17 "Small retreat for Dow, S&P" by AP says the market took a break from its record breaking run on Tues when some weak corp earnings held the market back.

FT p21 "Wall Street" says US stock indices were little changed Tues ahead of data later in the week that investors hoped would give a lcarer indication of the strength of the US economy.

IBD pB4 "Market shows resilience as early losses evaporate" by Ken Shreve says stocks turned in a resilient performance Tues as major averages ended well off session lows as the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

As of the open  of the market on Wednesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6   of  Wednesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Wednesday's   trailing P/E ratio is  17.51 down  from Tuesday's  trailing P/E of 17.54  (last year it was 14.47);  Wednesday's   P/E estimate is  14.70 unchanged from yesterday's P/E estimate of 14.70  (year ago it was 12.37) and today's  dividend yield is 2.14 unchanged from yesterday's  dividend yield of 2.14  (last year it was 2.56). The Dow's all-time high was 15,680.35   on October 29, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2432.01 down 3.25   from Monday's closing numerator of 2435.26. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $81.07 down 11 cents from Monday's average closing price of 81.18.  The median closing price of  Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $77.30 (NKE/WMT) up 14 cents from Monday's median closing price of $77.16 (HD/WMT).  The lowest volume was  Travelers and the highest volume was Microsoft.

If  Tuesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost $325   ($243,526 - $243,201).

MarketWatch 11/5/13 Tues. 4:08 pm by Victor Reklaitis says  U.S. stocks mostly closed a little lower on Tuesday, as investors weighed a better-than-expected reading on the U.S. services sector against lower euro-zone growth forecasts. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.13% fell 20.90 points, or 0.1%, to 15,618.22, after the blue-chip index wiped out the bulk of a 117-point intraday drop. The S&P 500 SPX -0.28% lost 4.96 points, or 0.3%, to finish at 1,762.97, while the Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.08% rose 3.27 points, or less than 0.1%, to 3,939.86. The Dow and S&P 500 both snapped two-day winning streaks, while the Nasdaq stretched its winning streak to three sessions in a row.
