11/26/13 Tues. am Walmat Gets New CEO - Doug McMillon

http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,455 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a  recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization  and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of  Tuesday's   Wall St. Journal,   Financial Times,  Investor's News Daily, New York Times, Atlanta Journal & Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg)  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and  Monday's closing stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average:  The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Mon. at 16072.54 up 7.77 or 0.05% from  Friday's  close of 16064.77. For the year the Dow is up 22.65%. Of  the Dow components 18   gained and 12   declined.  The biggest gainer dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was  Caterpillar up $1.52 or 1.83% .  The biggest decliner dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was Boeing down $2.97 or 2.18%.

WSJ pC4 "Nasdaq touches 4000 on mixed day" by Dan Strumpf says the Dow marked a record high which is its 42nd record this year.

NYT pD8 "Nasdaq briefly tops 4000 as markets take a break" & AJC pA11 "Nasdaq flirts with 4000" by AP says the agreement to limit Iran's nuclear program pushed down oil prices & energy stocks.

IBD pB2 "Early strength fizzles as stalling seen on nasdaq" by Vincent Mao says stocks ended narrowly mixed Mon as the major indexes hit new milestones but faded late in the ssion as the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

FT p23 "Nasdaq shakes off Facebook drag to breach 4000 level" by Jason Abbruzzese says  news that Walmart's CEO is stepping down had little effect on its shares which were up 0.8%.

As of the open  of the market on Tuesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5   of  Tuesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Tuesday's   trailing P/E ratio is  16.50 down from Monday's  trailing P/E of 17.95  (last year it was 14.39).  Tuesday's   P/E estimate is  15.02 unchanged from Monday's P/E estimate of 15.02  (year ago it was 12.10) and Tuesday's  dividend yield is 2.15 up from Monday's  dividend yield of 2.11  (last year it was 2.67). The Dow's all-time high was 16,072.54 on November 25, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2502.75 up 1.21 from Friday's closing numerator of 2501.54. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $83.43 up 5 cents from  Friday's average closing price of 83.38.  The median closing price of  Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $80.09 (HD/WMT & NKE/) up 60  cents from Friday's median closing price of $79.49  (HD/WMT).  The lowest volume was  Travelers and the highest volume was Intel.

If  Monday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $121   ($250,275 - $250,154 ).

MarketWatch 11/25/13 Mon. 4:10 pm by Victor Reklaitis says  .stocks closed little changed on Monday, erasing moderate gains that came after a deal with Iran that boosted investors' appetite for risk. The market just showed a little fatigue after strong action in recent weeks, said Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at Rockwell Global Capital. "It's just normal growing pains," he told MarketWatch, adding that it's a holiday-shortened week and volume's light "so the gyrations can somewhat be exaggerated." The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.05% rose 7.77 points, or less than 0.1%, to finish at 16,072.54, while the S&P 500SPX -0.13% fell 2.28 points, or about 0.1%, to end at 1,802.48. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.07% gained 2.92 points, or about 0.1%, to close at 3,994.57. The tech-heavy index spent some time above 4,000 but couldn't finish above that milestone level that it last closed above in September 2000.
