Post No. 2,453 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.
A read of the print editions of Monday's Barron's, Investor's News Daily, Wall St. Journal, Financial Times, New York Times, Atlanta Journal & Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's closing stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Fri. at 16064.77 up 54.78 or 0.34% from Thursday's close of 16009.99. For the week the Dow was up 48.29 or 0.30% from last Friday's close of 15,961.70. For the year the Dow is up 22.6%. Of the Dow components 22 gained, Coca-Cola was unchanged and 7 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Boeing up $3.04 or 2.29% . The biggest decliner dollar-wise was IBM down $2.83 and percentage-wise was Intel down 5.39%.
IBD pB8 "Stocks rise, but what are the signs really saying?" by Paul Whitfield says stocks opened higher and didn't look back Fri as Friday's action was up in mixed volume and the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.
As of the open of the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of Monday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117. Monday's trailing P/E ratio is 17.95 up from Friday's trailing P/E of 17.89 (last year it was 14.45). Monday's P/E estimate is 15.02 unchanged from Friday's P/E estimate of 15.02 (year ago it was 12.10) and Monday's dividend yield is 2.11 down from Friday's dividend yield of 2.12 (last year it was 2.67). The Dow's all-time high was 16,064.77 on November 22, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.
Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2501.54 up 8.53 from Thursday's closing numerator of 2493.01. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.
The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $83.38 up 28 cents from Thursday's average closing price of 83.10. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $79.49 (HD/WMT & NKE/) up 81 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $78.68 (HD/WMT). The lowest volume was 3M and the highest volume was Intel.
If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $853 ($250,154 - $249,301).

economy via its bond-buying program.Janet Yellen, nominated to succeed Ben Bernanke as head of the Fed early

Monday's Dow News followed by Friday's Closing Dow Numbers:
As a result, the S&P 500 has gained nearly 27% this year and has
soared around 166% from its bear-market low of 676.53 hit in 2009. The
Dow closed above 16,000 on Thursday, notching its 40th record close this

fastest 1,000-point gain for the Dow.
“We’ve set a new record close on the Dow. We’re doing it in a fashion
that’s not an explosion; it’s kind of a grind,” said Art Hogan, market
strategist at Lazard Capital Markets. The market’s gains have been underpinned by the belief that
third-quarter earnings were better than expected, the global economy is
getting better and the Federal Reserve will keep its accommodative
monetary policy, according to Hogan. “That doesn’t mean they won’t taper
[bond buying], but they won’t raise interest rates any time soon,” he
said, referring to the Fed.Investors got several encouraging economic reports this week, including a sharp drop in weekly jobless claims, a 0.4% rise in October retail sales and a 0.1% decline in
October consumer prices.Wall Street’s strong run has spurred discussion
of whether a bubble is
forming in the market. Hogan said the S&P 500 is not in bubble
territory based on stock valuations.“I don’t think we are overvalued
[overall], but you can find pockets of a
bubble” in equity sectors such as social media, cloud computing and
biotechnology, he said.Billionaire David Tepper, who runs hedge fund
Appaloosa Management LP,
also believes there is no bubble in the stock market, telling Bloomberg
TV that major economies such as China and the U.S. are on “firm
ground.” “Our big play versus the market is airlines. We’re the biggest
holder of
all these different airlines,” Tepper also said. Shares of United
