http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,494 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a  ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of Dec. 9, 2013  and a summary of Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of Dec. 9, 2013.

A read of the print editions of  Monday's   Barron's & Investor's News Daily; the combined Sat/Sun issues of the Wall St. Journal &       Financial Times; & Sunday's & Saturday's New York Times & Atlanta Journal & Constitution  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and  Friday's closing stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average:  The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 16221.14  up 42.06 or 0.26%  from  Thursday's  close of 16179.08.For the week the Dow is up 465.78 or 2.96%  from last Friday's close of 15,755.36.   For the year the Dow is up 23.79%. Of  the Dow components    10 gained and 20   declined.   The biggest gainer dollar-wise was Boeing $1.72  and percentage-wise was Caterpillar up 1.59% .  The biggest decliner dollar-wise   was Nike down 92 cents  and percentage-wise was Pfizer down 1.5% .

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 2525.89 up 6.55 from Thursday's closing numerator of 2519.34. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

WSJ pB1 "Dkow Industrials hit another peak" by E.S. Browning, Matt Jarzemsky says on Friday the Dow did something it hasn't done in nearly 14 years: it closed at a record after adjusting for inflation.  The Dow has now recovered from the Internet bubble the Sept 11 attack, the Enron scandal, the housing bubble & the fin'l crisis.

IBD pB8 "Stocks storm higher, led by small cap S&P 600" by Paul Whitfield says after pausing to clear its throat Thur, the market uptrend returned to yelling mode Fri.  Friday's action was up in higher volume and the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

FT p11 "Wall Street" says  Boeing added 1.6% after it won an order from Cathay Pacific Airways.   US stocks climbed overall putting the S&P on pace for the biggest weekly gain  in 2 months.

Sat. NYT pB6 "Data on economic growth lifts markets" by Reuters says stocks rose Fri. cappign the best week for major indexes in months as strong data increased confidence the recovery was accelerating.

As of the open  of the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B6  of  Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Monday's   trailing P/E ratio is  16.54 unchanged from Friday's closing  trailing P/E of 16.54  (last year it was 14.66).  Saturday's   P/E estimate is  15.01 up from Friday's closing  P/E estimate of 14.98   (year ago it was 12.65) and Monday's  dividend yield is  2.13 up from Friday's closing  dividend yield of 2.12  (last year it was 2.67). The Dow's all-time high was 16,221.14 on December 20, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $84.20 up 22 cents from  Thursday's average closing price of $83.98.  The median closing price of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $79.11   (HD/WMT) up $1.18 from Thursday's median closing price of $79.11.     (HD/NKE).  The lowest volume was  Travelers and the highest volume was GE.

If  Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $655  ($252,589 - $251,934).

MarketWatch 12/20/13 Fri. 4:18 pm by Victor Reklaitis says U.S. stocks rallied on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 achieving record closes, after a government report showed the economy grew at its fastest pace in two years last quarter. The Dow DJIA +0.26% advanced 42.06 points, or 0.3%, to end at 16,221.14. It rose 3% for the week after losing ground in the prior two weeks. The S&P 500                         SPX +0.48% gained 8.71 points, or 0.5%, to close at 1,818.31, as it added 2.4% for the week and also snapped a two-week losing streak. The Nasdaq COMP +1.15% rose 46.61 points, or 1.2%, to end at 4,104.74, gaining 2.6% for the week.
