A read of the print editions of Friday's Wall St. Journal, Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily,New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution and Daily Report (Ga. - carried Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Thursday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial AverageThe Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Thursday at 12,980.30 up 28.3 or 0.22% from Wednesday's close of 12,952.07. For the year the Dow is up 6.24%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Procter & Gamble PG $66.66 -0.96 1.42% 11,884,540 NYSE.

WSJ pC4 "Stocks hold ot close higher" by Chris Dieterich says stocks rose after firm readings from the labor market & retail sales but gave up gains late in the session after a report later denied of a pipeline explosion in Saudi Arabia. Fin'ls & materials were the best performing sectors in the S&P. JPMorgan added 1.13% and Bank of America rose 15 cents after the WSJ said it is working on changes that would require many users of checking accounts to pay a monthly fee.

Fin times p24 "Fin'ls lead the way as bullish S&P climbs to post-crisis peak" by Ajay Makan says US stocks survived a mid-afternoon oil price surge to finish the session at a post-fin'l crisis high, as Wall St's best start to a year in 2 decades continued to gather strength.

NYT pB6 "Fin'l rally sends shares higher" by Bloomberg says stocks advanced on Thurs sending the S&P to the highest level since '08 as fin'l shares rallied and gov data showed that initial jobless claims declined to a 4 year low.

USA Today p4B "Stocks up as fall in jobless claims indicates labor market is healing" by Bloomberg says stocks advanced Thurs sending the S&P idnex to the highest level since '08 as fin'l shares rallied & after gov data showed that jobless claims declined to a 4 year low.

Inv. Bus. Daily pA1 "Stocks up in mild trade, but leaders find volume" by Paul Whitfield says stocks Thurs rebounded nicely though imperfectly from Wed's sell-off. Action was up in lower trade as the current outlook is still in a confirmed uptrend.

As of the open of the market Friday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of Friday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Friday's trailing P/E ratio is 14.53 up from Thursday's trailing P/E ratio of 14.49 (year ago it was 14.66); Friday's P/E estimate is 12.45 unchanged from yesterday's P/E estimate of 12.45 (year ago it was 12.67) and today's dividend yield is 2.50 down from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.51 (last year it was 2.41). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,715.08 up 7.30 from Wednesday's closing numerator of 1,707.78. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator decrease for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the decrease in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $57.17 up $0.24 from Wednesday's average closing price of $56.93. The median closing price of Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $49.36 (DD/HD)up $0.15 from Wedneday's median closing price of $49.21. The lowest volume was 3M MMM $87.49 -0.11 0.13% 2,520,622 NYSE and the highest volume again was Bank of America BAC $8.111 +0.141 1.77% 190,295,124 NYSE.

If Thursday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have made $730 ($171,508 - $170,778).

MarketWatch Thursday 3/1/12 4:09 pm by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks closed higher Thursday, after scaling back late in the session on reports of a blast destroying pipelines in Saudi Arabia that sent oil futures above $110 a barrel. "Every dip is being bought," said Peter Boockvar, equity strategist at Miller Tabak. The price of oil rising "because of supply issues is a lot different than due to demand," said Boockvar. "The market doesn't care," he added. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.22% added 28.23 points, or 0.2%, to end at 12,980.30. The S&P 500 SPX +0.62% rose 8.41 points, or 0.6%, to 1,374.09. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.74% advanced 22.08 points, or 0.7%, to 2,988.97.
